On an amenity plot facing the Clifton bus stand owned by people of Karachi under the continued deep planning of depriving the people of every recreation or parks a 54 story building has been planned. The plea is it would give a modern look to Karachi attracting the foreign tourists. The foreign tourists I thing do not have tall buildings in their countries. Since use of an amenity plot is against the law hence instead of applying for construction approval in routine under a tactics a special meeting was arranged in Governor House headed by the Sindh Governor who is absconder from justice. Daily Telegraph London early this month published how this Pakistani Governor was cheating the British public by keep taking social allowance cheques whereas while serving as Governor in Pakistan. Amongst two other voices Chief of Karachi Building Control Authority Brigadier (Retd) A.S. Nasir had the courage to object to the proposal giving reference to the Law which prohibits using this amenity plot for another use, Since the meeting had deliberately been arranged with Governor on seat who must had already been “prepared” hence he did not care for this objection and advised preliminary Go Ahead. This Chief of Karachi Building Control Authority is the one who in Pakistan service history has two sole distinctions earned namely (a) still serving in the age of 68 and (ii) getting 8th extension in Service. His 8th extension had been the topic of wide press coverage and an outspoken lady officer was transferred when she referred to law of Pakistan prohibiting extension to him. By raising his objection to the building proposal in the Governor House meeting, I wonder if he had well realized that after the nation wide criticism on his 8th extension early this year is hard for him to get another one next year or he himself was not interested in getting the 9th service extension.
