Does Night Kite still happen in Lahore?

I remember going to Night Kite in the old city years ago. It was spectacular. But they keep outlawing Basant altogether. Is Night Kite a thing of the past? Does it happen elsewhere in Pakistan?

Re: Does Night Kite still happen in Lahore?

Nope not anymore, strict SC orders.

By Night kite he meant flying kites at night in basant season.

Re: Does Night Kite still happen in Lahore?

Keeping kites and strings for sale in Lahore is now equivalent of keeping Hash for sale. Cannot find anything to fly :P

What a trip! It's a shame but given the number of deaths that this pastime causes (inadvertently), I would have to say I understand.

Night Kite was an incredible experience. Making one's way to the old city-- just trying to park was an adventure in itself! You had to know somebody who lived there, because the parties were up on the roofs of the old buildings, packed in together so close. Wedding lights cascading all over the buildings. Disco music pounding out of huge speakers, that special tea made of zafran and almond milk. Everywhere you looked, the night sky was lit up with giant Hollywood type searchlights, silhouetting the Mughal gumbuds and minars. In the sky thousands and thousands of kites, and the air filled with music and excitement.

Well, at least I tasted it one time...

^ aah nostalgic. I miss it a lot too as I grew up with all that. It wasn't on a massive scale when I was younger but still an event that we looked forward to. Having said that, I do support the ban as the fun is not worth all those precious lives.
