I have read an article about giving to beggars, especially kids. In that article, the author says that giving money to children hurts more than it helps because of many reasons. One of the negative implications given in the article is for the kids to be given the motivation to continue begging and stay out of school. Another reason is for the parents of these kids to see that begging is more lucrative than working. One of the best I have read is that giving more money to children begging on the street doesn’t have a long term benefit. Therefore, the next time you give to child beggars, think again. That’s what I do. How about you? Any experience?
Re: Does it help or hurt?
i rarely give money to beggars. but if i do, its mostly the handicapped or the super old people. to kids ... hardly. i agree .. that it hurts more than help.

Re: Does it help or hurt?
Oh I had known about this for a long time. Which is why I NEVER give out any money to any beggar!
Once however a very strange coincidence happened with me, I was walking from the supermarket to my car - Where upon I was stopped by a snake charmer. He begged for some money, but I told him: Not a chance in hell buddy! So then he said: Please pay me, and I will pray for you. However I looked at him again and arrogantly said: I seriously doubt your prayers will be of any use to me...
After which I got into my car and drove home. But believe it or not, that very some day a poisonous snake somehow made it's way into my bathroom. However since I killed the snake, I decided not to change my ways - And so till this day, I still don't give out any money to any beggar (come what may)!!!

Re: Does it help or hurt?
I only buy food for them and make sure that they eat it then and there only if a beggar says he/she is hungry and needs food to eat.
I'm afraid I can't resist.Whenever a child asks I give.Just can't help it.
Now,adults are another matter. When you ignore them they start giving bad dua and I am scared of that especially when they bring my children into it,so I give in.
In India once we saw some children sharing the same crutches..:):.Some fruit fell off the back of a cart and they left them and ran to pick up the fruit. On the same trip we were in Mcdonalds, and there was a bunch of kids outside.Literally, the food stuck in my throat until I bought some for them, and then they wanted coke to go with it...cheeky gits...lol.
I think my children are more aware of child beggars and they always carry Rs10 notes and hand them out like there's no tomorrow...but it comes out of their pocket and they are happy to do it.
But....how can you resist?????
I have sooo many combs/kamarband/aital kursi/pins/bands,I could probably open my own stall.
