Normally Islam brings in the image of a die-hard believer, a fanatic, in the minds of citizens of th world. Is cruelty there in Islam bçoz of the so much bloodshed it approves! Forgiveness is conspicuous in Islam by its absence.
A lot of the 'normal' images are often exagerated as I'm sure your aware.
A lot of people may view Hinduism as sham of a manmade religion which involves worshiping human genitals,monkeys, elephants and drinking cows urine and nothing else. But I'm sure that you'll agree that would be an unfair represnatation of the religion.
But what exactly are you talking about? Lets deal with specific examples and not spread about general statements and slogans often used by the media to sell papers.
How does it (Islam) approve bloodshed and how many of these 'bloodthirsty' muslims are active participants of this bloodshedding.
Only those who scheme against Islam and openly fight the muslims are considered enemies. Like the Indians. Muslim countries have no problems with Peru for example.
The Qur'an opens with:
"In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful." (1:1)
This is an oft repeated statement in the lives of Muslims. The Qur'an is filled with similar statements discussing the compassion of Allah. The Prophets (all of them) dealt in their daily activities with an equal compassion.
The media depicts Islam and Muslims in a particular way. Edward Said has written extensively in this respect. Said believes that “malicious generalizations about Islam have become the last acceptable form of denigration of foreign culture in the West; what is said about the Muslim mind, or character, or religion, or culture as a whole cannot now be said in mainstream discussion about Africans, Jews, other Orientals, or Asians.”
So what you see in the media may not be the reality, as others on this thread have pointed out.

and yes Islam does teach compassion. After all what other religion means peace.
i would suggest that before you put such a post on a forum, you do a comparative study of the relgious books and of other religions and not go on hearse.
