he loves loves rice,
my doc said that dairy product doesnt make difference ,its old saying but i googled.,it few says it deos ,few says it doesnt..

sam_Sam, I also dont really know! but I would not stop giving him his dairy products, I am also suffering from this, without the fever and cannot take medicine at the moment, so maybe someone has some answers.
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
I've heard this...and have been told by the pediatrician to cut back on dairy when my boyz were sick. But have never found it to make much difference either way. They say that dairy increases the amount and the thickness of mucous.
But with your little one, it sounds like its been going on for quite some time. Have his docs done any allergy testing? Allergies can cause lots of mucous. Lots of mucous can lead to more frequent upper respiratory infection. And when they do have a mucous condition, its tougher to coordinate the whole chew, swallow or suck, swallow thing. Perhaps ask his doc to do some allergy testing and even perhaps a milk protein sensitivity test.
Meantime, try "cupping", there was a bit of discussion about this recently...its basically just doing "burping", cup your hand and lightly pound on his back. Best to do this just after a nice steamy bath. It helps loosen even the thickest of mucous and move it to where baby can much more easily cough it out.
I hope this helps and the little guy is feeling better soon!!!
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
I just noticed that you also asked for breakfast options. The best thing I ever gave my son (the one with eating and weight issues) is oatmeal. Theres SO much you can do with oatmeal (or perhaps your son may prefer rice cereal)....you can add honey which adds great calories and boosts immune system, you can add extra virgin olive oil for a huge calorie boost, you can crush up a children's vitamin and stir it in. You can add applesauce for fruit and you can add oregano oil which kills viruses, theres just endless possibilities for things you can stir in to it...
If he likes rice, its almost a sure bet that he'd like the rice cereal. Or even maybe rice pudding!

Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
oatmeal isn't made of rice jaanu - its oats and wheat and really good for him.

sorry i was talking about rice pudding and rice cereal...
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
my personal opinion is to stay away - better safe then sorry.
Or do an expierent of you're own; feed him rice and see if he gets worse.
If not then home free; if he does then don't.
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
Hey...if he LIKES it, if he eats it, if he's fussy....then go with it. Sure, if you notice that his chest sounds more wheezy or rumbly when he eats rice then switch to oats or something else. But I never found even dairy products to make mucous noticeably worse. These are things you can try, even once, and see how it goes, see if he seems worse. If he doesnt seem worse and he likes to eat it...then keep on with it. Also, Ive never heard that rice products make mucous worse. I could be wrong about this but really the only thing I heard of was dairy and like I said, it never had much of an impact on my boyz even when they were sick with a virus. SO you have to do the things that work for your own particular child.
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
Key point - what works for your particular child.
Its really helpful to ask advice but a large part of thier diets is trial and error
Re: Does DAiry products makes mucus worst?
cold dairy products do cause mucus. if u have to give him yotghurt, leave it out for a bit and then give it. milk should be given warm or atleast at room temperature.
rice should be cut out as they do cause mucus.
cucumbers too. and banana.
