Does commiting a major sin put a person outside the fold of Islam?

Well. If a person accepts it as a major sin, why would he/she keep doing it?

Mr.Umer is saying right .....bcz

if someone knows that he is going in a wrong direction continuously then how can one say that he/she will be able to reach the right destination..God is merciful but it does'nt mean that we keep on commiting sins....bcz no body knows that when Death will approach u and whether u will have the time confess or not....

So if someone is doing like that ..he/she should stop and confess ..

In very simple terms, it is in Quran that Allah can forgive all sins except "shirk" (sharing someone as partner with Allah). This means, that as long as you repent sincerely and vow not to commit the sin again, your old sins will be wiped out. If you die with sins on you, Allah can forgive all of them. Except, if you die in a state of "shirk", then Allah will not forgive it.

If we understand this point, then, it is clear that if a muslim commits any sin, large or small, and realizes that, and repents with sincerity and vows not to commit the sin again, then his sins are wiped out and he is like a fresh slate.

If someone, repents and then keeps on doing the sin (large or small), then either his repentence is not sincere or Allah needs to bless him with more will-power to resist the tempetation of sin. He should repent with more sincerity and ask Allah for strength to repulse the constant attack of nafs and shaitaan.
