Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

I can speak from my experience living in a country, that calls 23% of its population vegetarian.

Although we have plenty of people that call themselves 'vegetarian', the rest eat a lot of meat. Especially, the Kshatriyeh and the Vaisya, the two largest Hindu castes, that make up over 60% of the Hindu population and the people down South, in the Central nomad regions and in the North east, as of course the minority communities.

So, we have a useful point of comparison. In my experience, those who eat purely vegetarian food tend to be thinner, taller and leaner and have better complexions. Those who don't eat meat and drink a lot of milk, with other sources of protein like moong, eggs or something called Quinoa- which is now becoming very popular- have dense, hard bones and are very strong and tend to be athletic. Those that don't have alternative sources of protein- like the Jain community, which tends to restrict itself to things growing aboveground and eat a lot of oil-rich or ghee-rich foods tend to be fat and overweight. Those that are vegetarian otherwise- but tend to eat lots and lots of fish- like 'vegetarian' Bengalis have longer lives and better aptitudes. And finally, those that eat lots of exotic meats- such as those in our central regions and South and north-east- tend to be short, stocky and very tough.

*If you're working out, you need protein. There's no substitute for that. 'Vegetarian' Indians will pretty much eat a dozen-to-fifteen eggs on the days they decide to work out. But too much meat, as with anything in excess can make you fat, slovenly and dull.

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

You took my comment literally.
Living life asexually meaning one has the tool, desire and need but does not use it for fun! Boring life. :stuck_out_tongue:

P.S. For centuries mankind has been given canine teeth. Do you think they are for peeling sugarcane?

P.S. 2 You missed the last part of this video. It was a commercial. False advertisement. Meat is not the cause of ED. If this were to be true then vegetarians would have been the horniest prople on earth! :smack:

Looking forward to have my piece of steak…

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

*Meat body builder vs veg body builder?
*

It isn't even a competition... Meat guy trumps veggie guy any day of the weak. For building muscle, there ain't no elixir like meat (which is for the most part muscle anyway).

Certain proteins and molecules in meat are not found in non-meat foods. Also, it's not just about the specific protein, it's also the 'type' of protein too: the packaging, the energy yield etc, which is different in meat vs veggies and fruit. Moderation is the key of course, and an 'over-dose' in meat isn't helpful either.

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

Vegetarians being thinner, taller and having better complexion?

I think you went a little overboard there or your experience is limited. All of these can be found in largely meat eaters in this world. Complexion has not much to do with meat or no meat in diet. But complexion can be better in red meat eater because of more red blood cells. Rosy cheeks. If you eat carrots in large amount then complexion maybe pale yellowish.

@TLK: Best weapon is Kaddu. Another form of loki. :hehe:

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

You vegematarians are missing out…

Think of all the maghaz, kaleji, pepray, paaye, ojri, gurde kapooray, nallis, sirri, haggis, black pudding and other delectable delicacies that you could be tucking into right about now…:yummy:

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

well you can, But are you comparing a lokee with BHANS KAY PAAY ?????

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

@Shak

Man only became civilized when he started living a settled life. That was possible only because of agriculture. Earlier he was a barbarian who lived either in a cave or roamed around as a nomad.

@diwana

I didn’t misunderstand you. Your comment was as silly as a Chinese commenting that a person who doesn’t eat cockroaches/monkeys/dogs is living an asexual life. The youtube video was a joke. Although I admit it is a PETA propaganda, but it is a proven fact that obesity, high BP etc are directly caused by an overindulgence of meat diet ( and fat) , and cause impotency in many cases.

I have eaten all this and a lot more which I would rather not mention here lest some people puke on their keyboards
The tongue soup available on Md. Ali road in Mumbai is especially delicious.

But the OP asked whether one can build muscle mass on a vegan diet. The answer is yes. Protein supplements may also be taken. I know a few meat eating body builders who also take these.

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

So somehow you relate to consuming meat as barbarian and now few people claiming to be vegetarian as civilized? lol

What does that mean you agree it was only a commercial but then still talking about something which is not even a fact.

Let me clarify, obesity, high blood pressure or impotency is NOT directly related to consuming meat.

Prove it.

Prove it with showing obesity, high blood pressure or impotency is NOT present in people who consume vegetarian diet.

Vegetarians still can be and are, obese, hypertensive and impotent. I guess you never saw vegetarians having obesity, cholesterol problem, heart attack or stroke. Anyone with consumption of vegetarian diet full of carbohydrates and fat can get SAME problems as someone who consumes meat.

Anyone who does not exercise enough in daily life can get these problems regardless of the composition of diet.

The items above mentioned earlier and you and I mentioned are not just ‘meat’ items but ‘animal products’. Big difference.

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

Nope, it doesn’t..if you eat the right stuff! Also, take a multi-vitamin daily.. Working-out isn’t hard either, I have whey protein! :aisha:

Re: Does being vegetarian affect a human?

If you want to eat what cows or chicken eat, then what they gonna eat?

Further more SindSagar has explained few deficiencies. Along with that pure vegetarian has a problem with the access of Iron in their blood cells which cause their veins to crack up. Where as only eating meat cause access of urea in your blood.

So its always better to eat “healthy” which means eat veg and meat both!
