I’m thinking about trying Tivo. My system configuration is going to look like: Comcast HD cable, DVD player, Dish Network for desi channels(GEO, ARY etc).
Has anyone used Tivo in such a configuration? What’s your impression? Right now I’ve comcast HD DVR which works fine but Tivo seems to give more control over when and where you can record programs + it also seems like I should be able to use it with multiple sources (comcast + dish network).
TV tuner cards are availbale at circuitcity like stores for 29 dollars or so. You install them in your PCI slot of your desktop, load the included software and hook up the regular TV black cable to your computer (as the Tuner card has that female connector)
They even come with a tv like remote control so you can bring the TV screen up on your monitor so you can watch TV
Through a web site like titnatv.com, you can time the recordings of our fav. shows and that is it
TiVo does not work with Dish Network. It works with DirecTv for sure. However, make sure it works with Comcast, before you take the plunge. TiVo used to be the gold standard of user interface, however, recently Dish DVR's new model ViP622 HD gets better marks than even TiVo.
I am not sure why you have both Comcast and Dish. If HD programming is your focus, then except for Fox Sports HD, Dish has pretty much all other local HD channels in all major markets. Plus Comcast generally is more expensive. Anyway, thats probably another discussion.
