Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?
Govt schools in pak are now considered a refuge for the poor or simply those who cannot afford private schools. People from karachi familiar with the terms NJV, Nai Roshni etc?
The ministry of education spends fk all on schools. I personally knew Pakistan's Minister of Education during Benazir's time. After becoming minister he embarked on a trip to singapore or somewhat with his family and came back a couple months later, with the country's treasury a couple crore rupees drier.
So back to my point, it is extremely badly funded as someone above mentioned. Plus you dont learn English in govt schools till after grade 6 (ABC's start in grade 6). Not many people who would want their kids to learn english to prosper in this world like to send their kids to such schools. Technically there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.. its like learning a second language just like someone here would take up french much later in school. Its just that even in a country like pakistan urdu is losing its grip and english is almost becoming the official language.
A good solution for big city dwellers is to send their kids to convents. Theyre semi-private schools run by the catholic school board, highly organized and provide all services found in private schools. Basically schools that have names starting with a St. or Saint are those schools. I did my schooling in St. Patrick's in karachi. When i entered grade 1 (1985) my school's monthly fee was about Rs 150. Any other private school then would charge around Rs 500. A govt school at that time im guessing wouldve cost around Rs 10-20 per month.
So umm TDW i dont think anybody does, unless theres some special reason like Attia mentioned.. If you're talking about middle class and up, they probably have the money to afford a private or semi private school.
