Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

I am talking middle class and up, not the poor people.

Does anyone say “Well, I think Govt schools provide will provide a good education for my kids and I will send them to one”.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

I don't know any either, but my wife said that there are a few.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

I'm not too familiar with pakistani school system. but what exactly is soo bad about governemnt schools???

Do you get a better job if you go to a private school rather than a government school??

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

^ Actually no. From what I've heard, most bigwigs you hear about graduated from gov. schools rather than private, surprisingly.

I don't think any of us would send our kids to a government school, because of the fact that these schools don't have much to offer. It would've been different if government schools in Pakistan provided better programs, courses, and extra curricular activities for kids. This is very unlikely to happen since not many people agree to raise funds for such schools in the first place.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

That’s true, but these bigwigs grew up in different times when govt schools were good enough for a lot of people and there weren’t a lot of private schools.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

It is like sending kids to Government colleges, as they have merit and it is often hard to get admission there, so it is a sort of status symbol if your kid is graduating from Government college.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

the only thing i find Bad about paki govt run schools is that everything else but "Schooling " is provided there ... Teachers do everything but Teaching ... there are people with a Masters degree and believe me they dont know how to write propperly ... even when they write their names the spellings are wrong ...

this is why i wont send my children to govt schools

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

i myself am a product of pakistani govt. school......
i was in a private school till class 8....afer that i had to go to this govt. school forr 2 yrs coz my school didn't offer science courses...
but i know i did well coz my ammi kept a check on us n used to teach us herself too....but some of my class mates didn't recieve any help from school or family n they couldn't do well!!

some govt. schools are good n some are just bad .....much depends on administration n the area they are in .....like for example govt. schools in big cities (pindi, islamabad etc. ) are quite ok but the ones in far off villages are mostly good for nothing....

govt. colleges , on the other hands are excellent at some places ....i did my graduation from a govt. college (homec) ....n it was great!

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

There is nothing bad about Pakistani govt. schools (primary and secondary level), the only problem is that there are only few of them and are badly funded by the state. You would hardly find any new govt. schools in Lahore, and that has been the case for the last 10-15 years. With an average class size of 60 students and one teacher it surely has an impact on level of education. So the people who have the money would never send their kids to schools like these. But the problem is for the urban poor, their choices are fewer when it comes to their kids, Madrissahs or no schooling at all.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

But this is exactly the main issue. As long as no new and well equipped schools with qualified teachers open up, there is no chance of improvement in the government school sector.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

Pak govt schools are cool especially Air force. I waz in govt. school (Pak Air Force Chaklala, Rawalpindi) till my 5th class. Every facility waz there music classes, painting classes, special labs and much more.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

Ahem, some people won't send their kids to govt schools in the UK.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?

Govt schools in pak are now considered a refuge for the poor or simply those who cannot afford private schools. People from karachi familiar with the terms NJV, Nai Roshni etc?

The ministry of education spends fk all on schools. I personally knew Pakistan's Minister of Education during Benazir's time. After becoming minister he embarked on a trip to singapore or somewhat with his family and came back a couple months later, with the country's treasury a couple crore rupees drier.

So back to my point, it is extremely badly funded as someone above mentioned. Plus you dont learn English in govt schools till after grade 6 (ABC's start in grade 6). Not many people who would want their kids to learn english to prosper in this world like to send their kids to such schools. Technically there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.. its like learning a second language just like someone here would take up french much later in school. Its just that even in a country like pakistan urdu is losing its grip and english is almost becoming the official language.

A good solution for big city dwellers is to send their kids to convents. Theyre semi-private schools run by the catholic school board, highly organized and provide all services found in private schools. Basically schools that have names starting with a St. or Saint are those schools. I did my schooling in St. Patrick's in karachi. When i entered grade 1 (1985) my school's monthly fee was about Rs 150. Any other private school then would charge around Rs 500. A govt school at that time im guessing wouldve cost around Rs 10-20 per month.

So umm TDW i dont think anybody does, unless theres some special reason like Attia mentioned.. If you're talking about middle class and up, they probably have the money to afford a private or semi private school.

Re: Does anyone in Pakistan even consider sending their kids to govt school?
