Does anyone else get bothered by this?

Okay, we have enough people bemoaning the increase of vulgarity in Pakistani dramas and I totally agree with them. But no one seems to complain about the increase of graphic violence on the t.v.

Maybe I am alone, but I find it is very sick how sometimes they have to show gruesome details. And like recently there’s been this huge trend of suicides and suicide attempts, what’s that all about? And in more than one drama I see people beating some character or the other, in one scene a guy literally twisted the poor girl’s arm backward. And sabz Qadam’s promo, has anyone watched it, it’s so disturbing!

Sorry, I don’t want to see that kind of realism. We already live in a society where violence and brutality has become a norm. And I find it all very sickening.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

yeap.

and rape scenes....yes they dont show anything, but WTH they may as well.....too disturbing to listen to, .

i watched few episode of morning show of nida yasir. its very disturbing. in one show she invited class fellows of a small boy killed by bomb in karachi. they seem like 6or 7 years old. and she was asking poor kids how they are feeling abt it etc and one kid who was best friend of the deceased cried and cried. she was torturing those kids and no one nt even teachers who were present asked her to stop.

in one show she interviewed recent gng rape victim and her parents.

nida is an example of great work being carried out at our desi channels.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

^these morning shows should b banned

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

I haven't seen the interviews that you are talking about but from what I know of Nida Yasir and of the couple of shows that I have seen, I know that she is not even close to being qualified for conducting such interviews.

Some interviews maybe necessary to highlight social issues, but our channels need to realise that they need to be done with emapthy and sensitivity and not just for the sake of a dramatic interview.

the shows im takjing abt were aired late last year. im follower of these shows.
bt a friend of mine told me that in past werks she has interviewed a teenage rapiest of a child as well. i will try to find video links.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

^ That's just so sick. And the worst part is that they don't even pretend to be empathetic. I once watched a fragment of Nida's show, in which she was constantly asking painful questions from a mother whose son had abandoned her. The lady was actually crying her eyes out, and did Nida stop her barrage of stupid questions? Hell no!! I was so disgusted and felt so sorry for the lady. Why do people even agree to come to such shows. All they do is just try to exploit someone's misery to increase their ratings.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

There are no journalistic guidelines within the Pakistani media at the moment. BBC has highlighted this in quite a few articles over the past few years. I posted the links to these articles in the thread about lack of decency in dramas.

Geo Hina kay Sath was one of the best t.v. shows on air (it was hosted by "Sara's mother" in Humsafar). I have no idea why they cancelled it. She brought up so many social issues with tact and decency.

Even if you try and watch the news, the way the news is brought to the public is not appropriate. There are no guidelines and these channels are private. It doesn't help that the state backed channels are not doing much to assist the situation.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

I agree completely. Even Shiasta would ask the dumbest questions or Fahad Mustafa and Kiran of HUM's morning show. I remember Samina Peerzada had a great talk show but it was cancelled too, she was always emphatic and kind, never judgmental. Clearly these young morning show lot don't know much about dealing with sensitive issues.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

Absolutely bothered. The scourge of 'real slaps' in dramas is just overdone. Every drama/episode seems to have at least one slap (usually from a guy to a girl, for the sake of 'dramatism'), and worse is, the slaps are real. Not sure what kind of a message they are trying to convey to the world.

Re: Does anyone else get bothered by this?

^ Yep, the slaps, and so much violence. And such graphic depiction of suicides, murders, rapes etc. I don't get to watch any Geo dramas, so I don't know what's their standard. But ARY dramas leave me sick and am so disturbed by even looking at the promos, therefore I don't watch any of them. But there is plenty of that stuff on screen, and I honestly wonder how can people put up with this sort of stuff on t.v. Doesn't it disturb them? Because I don't see a lot of people complaining about this issue.
