Fasting is not just in muslims but it is a very old tradition every prophet used to do it. Does any one know detail insight on fasting history and can explain it.

Fasting has been observed by nations since eternity and almost all religions have fasting in one form or the other...Qur'aan says..."siyaam has been prescribed on to you like it was prescribed for nations before you"** ... so, it confirms that siyam has been in existence since time eternal.**
