Dodoon wali chai. ( Tea flavoured with poppy buds)

Doday are poppy buds. They are sold at grocery stores in Pakistan and are used to add extra flavor and body to the tea.
So many chai ka khoka and chai hotels in Pakistan serve it .
I do not even no it has traces of intoxicating agent in it. Never got addicted to it enjoyed it once in a while only.
I miss it here in USA as I think selling anything related to poppy ( khash khash in Urdu) is illegal here. I do not even see khash khash being sold at desi stores here in USA.
So who has enjoyed a cup of this delicious tea ?

i mean they’re available here. poppy seeds. not that i have it. i stick with my sesame seed bagel :smooth:

Now I think of and I realize it , so why khash khash is not available at desi stores ?

well not that much

its just the mutawas (maulvis) found out that ppl were using them to make drugs so they banned it

Poppy seeds are called "Khash-Khash" in urdu and the flower it comes from is called Gul-e-Dawoodi

Poppy seeds cannot be used for making drugs , they are used to grow opium which is a drug and raw material for more potent drugs.

I think you can get poppy seed tea even in the U.S. - poppy seeds being used as a condiment with baked goods and pastries aren’t that harmful.

That being said, poppy seeds are a source of opiates and a source of morphine (the potency varies among different batches of poppy seeds). I can still remember poppy seed tea resulting in a death in the U.S. in 2005/2006. I’ll hafta search for that news story.
