Doctor arrested for illegal abortion in Kangra

The police today raided a private hospital in Nurpur town in the district and arrested a doctor and two of his colleagues for allegedly conducting ‘‘illegal abortion’’ and endangering the lives of rural women.
The police raided the hospital of the doctor following a complaint by one Poonam Devi who alleged that she was a victim of illegal abortion, conducted in the hospital, which turned out to be unsuccessful.
Recently, Punjab Police recovered 200 to 300 female foetuses from a private hospital at Patan in the state.
The sources said Nurpur DSP Vimukt Ranjan said that the seven to eight room hospital was being run by a doctor who did not possess any degree or certificate.
The police have sealed the hospital and seized the register, which contained the list of abortion conducted in the hospital, the sources added.
^ Thats a good question. I am not sure what constitutes an illegal abortion in India. As the post says, 200-300 female fetuses have been recovered, there must be ONLY female fetuses that are being aborted and that's how it is illegal.
I am not sure, someone else might have better comments ....
Another question is why do they keep dead foetuses around. And that too by the hundreds.
Presumably so that when police raids the hospital, solid evidence is easier to find.
I mean, talk about about dumb criminals.
The babies can be sold to hospitals for money for teaching purposes etc. I am not sure exactly why? The doctor who can abort the fetus illegally, can also sell it to tohers and do more illegal activities.
I am not sure, someone else might have better comments ....
According to an article on female infanticide/genocide in glamour magazine, abortion has been legal in India since 1971 and since ultrasound technology became available, abortions have gone up.
^ No I don't have an issue with you Sara516. It is a sad fact how the female fetuses are being aborted in India and this is infact a step towards the race extermination.
I don't know if glamor magazine is right but if t were to be some scientific source, I'd have more trust in the authenticity of the material.
If you think about it for a second, nature/marketplace has a way of correcting such practices. Like when there are fewer women to men, value of females go up. As your article suggested, people literally sell their daughters for a high price and guys pay up, just because there are so few women of marriagable age. Once people realilze that they have to pay huge sums of money to secure a daughter-in-law, may be they will stop killing their daughters.
The whole concept of killing your children for fear of poverty is so sad. And to think that we are in the 21st century.
I don't know if glamor magazine is right but if t were to be some scientific source, I'd have more trust in the authenticity of the material.
I woudln't doubt the authenticity of the information, majority of the article is interviewing doctors and patients and men and women who've had abortions or sold their wives, with statistics thrown in. So it's not really a scientific article, it relies more on anecdotes and first-hand accounts but I don't see any reason to totally distrust/disbelieve any facts or statistics provided.
Faisal, what's even worst, is that doctors are the ones who are opposing any activism. They have the most to lose, btwn ultrasounds and abortions, the industry makes about 100 million (USD) a year and not a single doctor has been disciplined for sex selection. So I think that shows they are not in any rush to help make teh situation better, and it's sad because they are in such a position of influence that if alot of htem got together and said "This is wrong" they could very well be on their way to eradicating this practice. So it's not just upto the villagers/victims to not abort their baby and expect to live a nice happy life.
China's case is vastly different than India. Chinese government enforces a strict one-child policy to reduce overall population of their country. Parents only have one chance to select who they want to raise as their only child. I truly believe this is putting parents in an impossible dilemma. I have read many reports of abandoned female babies being raised in Chinese orphans, just because their parents wanted to raise a boy. Very very sad.
China is pretty much the same, or maybe even worse off because of their one-child policy. Again same problem, lots of men + very little women = sex trafficking, kidnapping, etc. AND in this particular country (not sure abt India), obesity's increasing among young boys, at least the urbanites, they get all teh food, parents spoil them etc. With the one-child policy, china may be different but both china and india have the same end result. At least Chinese girls are getting a chance at life, majority of them are being adopted by foreign couples.
if the mom wants to keep the baby, she should be able to. it is her baby and her womb in which the baby is.
call a spade a spade. any race and any person who is not protective of unborn or born life is a killer, given the parameters of ethical conception of a new life.
the only case in which abortion is fine is very early on in conception, if the unborn came into being due to a rape, a case of incest and where mom's life is clearly in danger, if the baby will be brought to term.
