Do you

parents force your kids to eat certain things they don’t want/like to eat?
Do you think it is healthy to do so?
I heard aisa khana doesn’t really benefit the kid.Is it true?

my abbu still makes me taste things I dont like to eat:bummer:He uses emotional blackmailing by saying…beta aik niwala abbu ke hath se khaa lo…and you hv to eat:@:

Re: Do you

I think parents should really encourage their kids to eat everything especially veggies and salads... my parents forced us to eat to veggies (my father would insist that veggies be cooked without meat/chicken) and we resisted but I appreciate them doing that coz now I love my veggies and salads...and I can have them without any meat at all...

hubby's parents on the other hand never forced the kids, and pretty much all of the time veggies are cooked with meat/chicken so kids would eat meat/chicken and leave the veggies...

And now at the point we are at, with kids inshAllah on the way ... it is gonna be tough telling kids to eat their veggies when dad doesn't eat them..... hubby and I have talked about me trying different recipes, and him giving a vegetable at least 2-3 chances before he rejects it.... it does take time to acquire a taste.... hope we can start eating veggies together as a family before the kids start eating solids..inshAllah

Re: Do you

^ Im the opposite. I gotta have meat. husband can live with a few veggie salans per week.

yes they force ! I am a mother myself now but I a still being forced. They know very well that I don’t eat certain thing esp mint raita yet I am always asked on the table if I want it or not ? then I am told that I should atleast try it. MY parents have been trying to get me eat certain things for more than 25+ years now and they have never succeeded but they still try & haven’t given up :smack:

Re: Do you

its really really importnat not to force feed ure child.. it comes naturally with an exception to few items.

force feeding actually works against u in teh long run and takes forever for the child to start liking a certain vegetable or meat etc.. sometimes it never happens.

it even throws some kids off of all food .. eating should never be a chore. its something thats meant to be enjoyed... ya when tehy are older... make them eat their veggies etc...

i have a 1 yr old and i am guilty of the mother syndrome of force feeding.. but im soo thankful i stopped fast... he was starting to resist anything i was putting in his mouth... he hated avacado for instance and i really wanted him to eat it... i would sit there and shove it in his mouth .... it helped zilch. so i backed off... and let him be in control....

today.. for bfast.. what did my son have? avacado right from teh source.. no additives nor force needed :)

its good to instill healthy eating habits, but i dont think its necessary for us to like everything out there... everyone is alowed their no no's.

Re: Do you

Khawa.... I wanna do for my hubby what ur doing for your son...get him to eat stuff that he doesn't wanna try.... pls share how u got ur son to eat the avocado....

Re: Do you

Theres a huge difference between force and encouragement.

I strongly encourage allmyboys to try new things. I strongly encourage eldest to eat anything at all!! They get vigorous praise when they comply.

Force doesnt work and can actually havea mare negative impact than anything else.

Re: Do you

My son has to eat what is on his plate, but that said, I try to provide balanced meals and am mindful of food that he REALLY doesn't like. Remember, some of kids' nakhere are because they see someone else doing it. Like, my kid never had a problem eating crusts on sandwiches until he went to preschool and saw other kids refusing to eat the crust...

He does know that for all new foods, he has to have 3 good bites (not sniffs!), before he can say he really doesn't like it. And if it is expensive so much the better: "Oh, gee, you don't like prawns? That's too bad. Oh, well - more for me!!" That's our little saying when we find out that somebody doesn't like something we like: "Gee, that's too bad. Oh well - more for us!"

Re: Do you

Yes, I do it. My kids would eat pizza and cookies all day if they could. But they eat salan now. Esp my son who use dto throw fits before eating it, eats chicken a few times a week now. Actually asian food esp turmeric is beneficail for health.

Re: Do you

I think forcing your kids is better than stopping them from eating certain foods like I have seen someone who never encourages her kids to eat rice, she says* 'roti is the best so ask kids to eat roti that's it'*. I believe whatever kids like to eat they must have some healthy diet. Rice are also good infact they are better than nothing.

Parents are supposed to develop this habit of eating every type of food in their kids.

Re: Do you

like someone else said above .... encourage yes.. force, no. 2 very diff things with very diff results :)

aumomne: hehe... my son is 1 yr old... developing eating habits.. i dont think u can train a fully grown man to start eating what he doesnt.. maybe blackmail ? :D u know.. when u have ure baby and its old enough to start solids.. then bring it up... munnay ke abba, pls sort out ure eating habits so we can teach the baby to eat healthy too... sure that can backfire in ure face by him saying .. baby doesnt havta eat anything it doesnt wanna.

but thats the only situation i think he would actually consider eating a more blanaced diet.. for the sake of teaching his own child ... good luck!

Re: Do you

khawa...don't u know grown men are like kids too.... my hubby knows what a health fanatic I have turned into since we got married....and he has seen what a healthy diet has done for me interms of my hormonal imbalance.... so he believes it... I have told him that once the baby is here he has to give every food 3 chances before he rejects it... let's hope he remembers it next time I make bhaingan ka bharta... lol

Re: Do you

that is a good rule i think... but some things are allowed to be hated.. for me its beetroot.. its god awful! none of the men in my family eat baigan.. they call it a non food :D but they eat all other veggies...

so everyoen is allowed to hate a few items.. as long as they eat a healthy diet.. its all good.

Re: Do you

this all comes with time and age.
I HAVE 2 SMALL KIDS 4 AND 2
whenever we are eating we always have salads and fruits on the table
( i hate fruit)
but for my kiddies benefits its always there in teh centre of teh table so they know its always there and so slowly and steaduily they pic up either onions , cucumbers beetroot also
and taste it and eat it now
so try and do it , sometimes you also need to force them a bit and all so lets see :)

In this entire post, the only shining part is Dad’s love , rest is gibberish.
