I always prefer to watch films, or TV in general, with subtitles…my vision is sharper than my hearing :hinna: But when i was younger i used to watch european films without the subtitles so i could pick up on the languages
Anyway, subtitles are absoloutely necessary for me… i remember the last Indian film i watched in the cinema (sathya naas, but not by choice, i went with hubby cos he loves them ) was ‘Dosti’..a couple of years back i think?? And yeah, seriously if i did not have the subtitles, i would’ve thought that the film was about two gay lovers…!
I second TLK bhai’s reason about the kids… they create some serious noise pollution
I do, especially a complicated plot movie. For instance, I wont watch the latest Bond movie without the subtitle on. Plus sometimes our kids are jumping by our sides and its kind of hard to hear the dialogues.
And no, no matter what X2 says, it does not mean that I am a Jahil. There is a reason why DVDs come with subtitle options. I like to use that.
I usually do but later I wonder one thing that instead of watching movie I am all the time reading subtitles and then I don’t remember the scenes. And sometimes I watch with subtitles because kids are sleeping and I keep the volume low so they don’t wake up.
I watch everything with subtitles, my mum used to put them on as she was slightly deaf, plus it helped with her reading English so out of habit I need subtitles on.
I love how on Bollywood DVD's, subtitles are considered as 'Extra's'! I brought the original Don and Amar, Akbar, Anthony on DVD a few years ago and the only DVD extras they had were the subtitles!
If subtitles are available, then i use them! sometimes dialogue in a film or tv show isnt too clear or said kinda fast or etc, this is my excuse.....maybe im just lazy, this could be it too i guess:D
no i rarely watch unless if the movie's sound quality isnt good or in some movies like 1 out of a 1000 people have wierd accents so i put on subs for them
normally i dont and they just seem annoying to me cuz i hate reading lolz :D

You know what's even more fun? Watching an Indian movie with English subtitles! If you hear the urdu/hindi and then look at the English subtitles.....they hardly EVER match up appropriately. And sometimes you can tell that the English subtitles were written by a Desi person with poor English. And often times, the translation sounds cheesy and kinda gay. Especially when it comes to the songs. I enjoy the humor factor the subtitles provide although I understand the urdu well.
^^ I recently watched a video or two of indian songs with subtitles and I was pleasantly surprised that translational was not word by word that throws the whole meaning of the poetry down the drain. It was more of transliteration and subtitles kept the meaning behind the lyrics.
That is exactly why I turn the subtitles on when it comes to Bollywood films; the comedy factor increases ten-fold and even the ‘rohna dhona’ scenes are amusing:rotfl:
Looking at the hero and heroine charge at each other in a grassy field as they bust out into a romantic song…and then these supporting dancers pop out from nowhere in the colorful village clothes…and then you look down at the screen at the OVER THE TOP flowery translation…and it makes you want to puke and laugh at the same time!!!

i do it too! especially when theres brit or austrailian accents >>or ghetto dialect...which means most likely i wouldnt sit it through the end....
There are always subtitles when we watch an Indian movie in theaters- pretty annoying actually because most of the time subtitles show up even before the character has spoken. We watched this ‘suspense’ movie called race and I had to try really hard to not read the subtitles because it would give away whatever was about to happen. Subtitles also ruin jokes Desi jokes sometimes are more fun than reading them in english.
