Those who are voting for option #3 (and I believe we can all see their nicks) but are not explaining the kind of changes they want to see... how do you want us to figure out what is in your minds?
Plus, those who have less than 100 posts in Religion forum (SalmanNY is an exception cz his nick was deleted earlier), rest assured your vote is still important, but not as important as the vote of those who post here all the time. And seriously, I don't care much for multi-nicks. And this is why the results of the poll (and who voted) are open to public.
There should be room for such discussion on this forum which offers great diversity and brings along people from all sects. This is an age where Jahiliyah has become a norm, and a person who speaks the truth is frowned upon. At a time where non muslims are being converted to by Ahmadis and Ismailis and Bahais under the name of Islam, Gupshup should take the initiative and lift the moratorium....so that open discussions can be resumed and that people who dont know the true reality of these so called sects of Islam (even though they dont even believe in the basic principles which constitute our religion) are shown the true picture.
I will abstain in voting for this exercise (although, I value Faisal Bhaijan’s effort). I believe, the guidelines here should be consistent with guidelines for other forums of GS. There is no need for extra measures. Foul language should not be allowed. I guess members will sooner or later figure out that unnecessary BS is not necessary.
get rid of the moratorium, and before that get rid of the morons due to which a moratorium had to be in place, who can not handle the ability too discuss things freely.
Until that happens, assorted idiots would diss other people's faith, religious figures, etc and consider it as their religious obligation if the moratorium is gone :)
I also don’t like to keep the Moratorium in place. BUT this is not the right time to remove it. Somebody may think that Admins are thinking to remove it because of Muharram & Azadari; seems they working on some hidden agenda. This is the time to keep the moratorium in place as it was during the whole year. If Admins remove it now, it will be considered as a discriminative act against Shias; that they are giving chance to other Muslim sects to criticize Azadari. If they had plan to remove it, remove it after Muharram and Azadari days forever and never impose it again.
Faisal ! Just presenting Azadari of Imam Hussain(AS) or any of the Shia Islamic Doctrine doesn’t hurt any other Muslim; for which you think moratorium is to be removed to allow Shias to present it. I even myself presented Azadari and other Shia Islamic Doctorine many times even at that time Moratorium was implemented; no muslims sect got hurt and nobody criticized it.
The only thing which hurt other muslims is Tubbara against Sahaba or their religious leaders like Abdul Qadir Jillani or Mirza Ghulam; which Shias avoid Azadari days; If they do, they do it in happiness and joyful days like Eid e Khadeer etc. But in contrast during the days of Azadari other Muslim sects criticize Shias with high intensity, which hurts them.
Again I am NOT in favor of Moratorium; but I am NOT in favor of its removal during the Azadari days. It will only be considered to allow other Muslim Sect to criticize object Shias as it happened last year. Remove it after Muharram and Azadari days forever and never impose it again.
I dont think the moratorium should be removed, esp, not during muharram, last time it happened people went crazy. Ive noticed we can still post generally on sect. stuff despite the ban, hence IMO we should keep it going the way it is.
**inuit ** - Just like you I too voted for the moratorium to be lifted. I think the sectarian differences and inter-religious debates can be held maturely if the people behave responsibly.
I agree with you that it is not the appropriate time to remove the Moratorium due to our Shia brothers and sisters sensitivities.
(ra) added by me]
Yeah that’s true. I hope that in the same spirit Shia brothers and sisters will keep in mind the sensitivities of other Muslims and keep the Tabbara (cursing and insulting the Sahabah (raa)) to themselves at least on this board. If the urge is really that strong for Tabbara I’m sure there are many exclusive Shia boards for them to vent their feelings to heart’s content.
Yeah, there will be always people around to believe in any conspiracy theories. I don’t think that there is any hidden agenda.
Funny, I seem to in agreement with all that you have said!
Thanks for taking the time to contribute to the discussion, and your votes. We will revisit this issue after Muharram, or if we can get a new moderator here earlier. For the moment, the moratorium stays. Shias are free to post their nohays and other stuff for muharram. No arguments, however, will be permitted. All threads opened to ask "innocent" questions that will provoke sectarian fights will be promptly closed.
2ndly; I think there is no harm, even if they post Nohas and material related to Imam Hussain(AS), Shohada e Karbala & Aseeran e Shaam AFTER the holy month of muharram.
there will be people who lack tact when it comes to expressing their opinion..and are sometimes outright offensive and nasty...but mature people can ignore insults..
Wthout a moritorium we at minimum can at least gain understanding of our differences..even if we are not willing that belief as our own. We can also find our similarities.
With a moritorium...we cannot learn or gain understanding of each other. We cannot learn tolerance. If all posting in a thread agree what are we learning?
