A few days ago I was having a conversation with someone (she’s in her 60s/70s) and has been married several times. Her children and other members of her family (siblings, their kids etc) have also been married several times, either divorced/greencard marriages/having second wives etc…she said something to the effect that if her parents had been alive for longer maybe everyone would have thought twice about what they did and the later generations wouldn’t have been affected as much.
I thought it was a pretty interesting point she brought up. What do you guys think?

Don't know about her children but she definitely may have been affected herself by her parents death. Basically if they were alive they would have tried to get her the best rishta possible which would mean lesser chances of the first marriage breaking up. You could argue that her children would subsequently benefit from the stable family and may have gone on to lead more stable lives of their own.
Anyway as humans I think we waste a lot of time on the WHAT IF question, there are so many what ifs in my life I don't even know where to start, the best thing is let bygones be bygones, live in the present and try not to be Captain Hindsight.
