Now this thread has got me thinking about how many attractive people I've encountered that actually have awesome personalities....and looking back...I haven't met many of them. There were a few....but with several (especially the girls) I noticed a lack of depth in character, snobby attitude, and a lot of insecurity (reflected in the snobby/snide/shallow remarks about other people, etc). Yeah there were a few exceptions and they're out there...just sharing what I observed.

Uh yes.

I have this colleague. We've had new people join the group recently and I start telling them the story of how she joined us and then I'm like oh sh.... better not, because it doesn't reflect well on her. Basically, there was a conference and she was one of the few female presenters. No one could understand her presentation with her russian accent and it wasn't our research area either, but she was hot and well turned out. One of the guys in our group would never turn up an opportunity to chat up a pretty lady so he went up to her afterwards and laid on the charm. She managed to wrangle an internship with our group through him, working with him and then he suggested her for a position later.

Do you guys think upbringing plays a role? I know some girls who are attractive, but that wasn't the focus when they were growing up. Their parents didn't emphasize it much...or they weren't the type to either compliment their kids much in general or didn't compliment them on their looks much. So, while they're good looking...they're not "too" aware of it or it didn't get to their heads. I've seen examples of people who turned out cocky because of receiving excessive praise from parents about their looks. One of my former colleages regrets doing that to her son because she sees how it's affected him. My mom wasn't much into complimenting us when I was growing up...because it wasn't her "style" and she thought it would do more harm...although now she's more generous about it, lol.

My experience has been the exact opposite and I have found better looking people to have less hangups, overall they are friendlier, have better personalities, are more confident about themselves etc which then means that in terms of friendships and relationships they are more easy going. I have seen exceptions as well and I think its those stereotypical exceptions that seem to get depicted more in pop culture a la john hughes movies.

Just like there are good looking ppl with messed up personalities where they are shallow, self centered, etc, there are not attractive people who are neurotic, self loathing and bitter.

The strangest thing is that I have seen a number of good looking girls who had hangups, not because of the usual image of other good looking girls putting them down, but because their less attractive friends nit picking on some feature.

Miss, if you dont know..you better believe it. That one event where I met you and spoke with you for like a minute, I had 3 guys I know, one a former gupster who shall remain nameless, asking about you and if i can introduce them etc.

just to add, my own first impression was...wow
and you have a personality to match so the following impressions were all in line.

Yeah. Also, I think most people don't care if a pretty woman's having hard times...they don't feel sorry for her because they believe good looking people have it easier.

I had a competition when it comes to GS directorship. The other guy was uglier than me so X2 picked me as the director.

anyways returning to topic and asking a related question, it seems that it is more acceptable to call good looking people as shallow, self centered, dumb, advancing on looks and not effort etc... but you dont see same negativity towards people below avg in terms of looks and calling them jealous, brooding, and with complexes etc. why is that?
