Do you think its worth paying the charities ?

I question their role in today’s world , i mean the charity organizations …

The other day i saw save a child charity sending us through a note book and fridge magnets through the post .. I hated them at that moment , why do they have to act all glamorous , they could have helped the kids in the world with the money rather then enticing people who are paying to the charity !!!

Then my husband found out from one of the charities that they keep a certain percentage from the total funds they have raised then they forward them to the charity in the other country , who then again keeps their share and passed on to a smaller charity who then again keeps their share … if you paid £10 to the charity only £2 will reach the deserving , that too we cant be too sure about !!! all this in the name of paying the salaries of the people working at the charities and their expenses !!!

Isnt it better to actual give charity directly to the sources we know truly deserve it and will be able to use every penny to their rightful needs ..

What say ?

Re: Do you think its worth paying the charities ?

Giving directly to the needy would be the best possible thing but if you can't do it then i guess go for one of the trusted charities like Shaukat Khanum. You can do your search on the charities and go with the one which seem most reasonable to you, the rest is all our intentions and we will be rewarded for it.

Good morning Ms Biryani,

Being from pakistan its really easy to find people who need help. Or as you say direct sources.
You can keep intouch with them to see the impact of your contribution in their lives. Its not so you can feel better but make sure
no one missuses your money. Because there always would other peple who wounld need it .

Re: Do you think its worth paying the charities ?

We usually give it to the organisations here.We send it directly Only wen someone we know is going to India/Pakistan/Bangladesh etc which is kinda rare.

Of course there is the logistics involved in delivering the aid to those in need, however too much gets creamed off by high paid executives these days.

Over the years we have established private channels through which we can send funds and ensure that they are being delivered to truly needy people and sometimes we are even able to ensure that the funds are used for necessities rather than luxuries.

We are currently involved in a scheme that provides funding for basic education needs (i.e. tuition, uniforms, books) for several children that would otherwise be unable to afford it. The funds are delivered through a family member directly to the school and receipts are collected. The children are required to maintain a passing grade and as a follow up we require progress reports to be scanned and sent to us.

The administrative portion of this is managed through email and funds are also transferred electronically. CDN$2.50/month is all we need for one child in elementary school. This amounts to CDN$30/year. My 9 year old daughter sponsors two children from her allowance.
