I see this word used all the time, especially due to influence from Bharat. But while it has been used by common folks, I have never seen it in any literary work. Proper Urdu uses ‘Nazar aana’ instead of ‘dikhna’.
What do you think?
PS: I kind of like the word ‘dikhna’ because its equivalent ‘Nazar aana’ is a compound verb. Dikhna is a single word expressing the same concept.
Re: Do you think 'dikhna' is a standard word?
Mujhe dikhai diya
Marine dekha
Mujhe woh dekhne ko jee chahta hai
These are the usages I am familiar with.

I agree with khoji. Sun, chal, beth, uth are nouns so Sun'na, chalna, uthna, bethna can become their verbs. Because dikh is not a word, so dikhna cannot be a word
Re: Do you think ‘dikhna’ is a standard word?
Dikhna is short form of dekhai dena…
Dekhai diye youn ke be-khud kiya :halo:

I assumed dikh as to dekh - was the same as ‘glance’ is as to ‘look’ … And I only heard it uttered in Bollywood films …
So dekhna is looking and dikhna is glancing - perhaps?
Anyway … Potohari has a good one …
Tu ki pe TaKna peyan …

Psyah,
dekhna = to look,
'dikhna' = nazar aana = to appear, to be shown.
It is similar to the difference between Murshid and Murshad, or Muntazir and Muntazar.

There is a 25 plus year old song by Lata with this lyrics. Hate that song.
Re: Do you think 'dikhna' is a standard word?

Come on, it is a beautiful ghazal by Mir Taqi Mir.
parastish ki yaan tak k ae buot tujhe
sabhi ki nazar mein khuda kar chale
jabeen sajda karte hi karte gai
haq e bandagi hum ada kar chale
Try telling that to a Hyderabadi
Re: Do you think 'dikhna' is a standard word?
Yes. I hardly understood a word. And by that time I was getting tired of Latha. In this song she kept on whining.
Lyrics may be good. But went over my head.
Do you think ‘dikhna’ is a standard word?

Mereku yai word b’hot achaa dhikTa…nice word hay…
Aap logaan ko nahin achaa dhikna, mai kuch samjha nahin

i thought Murshid/Murshad and Muntazir/Muntazar are just different pronunciations of the same word, no difference in meanings
Re: Do you think 'dikhna' is a standard word?
^ what do above words mean?
Re: Do you think 'dikhna' is a standard word?
Dikhta means Dikhai Deta... and Dikhai Dena as well..
e.g. "tere ko dikhta nahi kya ??"
===> Kya tumko Dikhai nahi Deta ??
&
Mere ko to sab dikhta hai..
===> Mujhko sab kuch Dikhai Deta hai...
I guess this word is generated from tapori language...
