I remember when we used to take summer vacations in Karachi and after lunch the whole house would shut down and everyone would take an afternoon nap. It was frustrating for me because I was not in the habit of napping and no matter what I did, I simply could not fall asleep. I would, of course, find other things (almost always mischievous ones) to do with the rest of the kiddie brigade but nap I would not.
I also know of people that are able to take “cat naps” that are quite short in duration and revitalize themselves. For example people who will pull over in the rest area on a long drive and nap for 20 minutes. Once they have this restful sleep they are perfectly fine to go on with their drive for hours. Again…not me.
In uni days, I used to sometimes take 15-20 min nap in the library in between classes, and it was really refreshing. Not anymore. Yesterday I tried taking a nap at 8pm and keep sleeping till 12:30am.
Aisi nap ka koi faayida nahi, jab baaqi ki raat neend nahi aayegi.
I still couldn’t familiarize myself with the art of power naps. The rare times I do take one, I am exhausted when I wake up. Takes away all the energy.
I love naps. Apparently 10-30 min is ideal, any longer and you get into deep sleep which leaves you feeling like a drunken rhinoceros if someone happens to disturb you.
I also used to sleep about 20 min during the afternoon in university. If I was able to, I would take a nap at work as well. Many places (like Google obviously) actually have nap rooms available.
I did sometimes when I was in university - but mostly at night time. Like when I was working on a research project, it honestly felt like there wasn’t enough hours in the day and I didn’t want to compromise on the family time, so I use to sleep like 1,5-2 hours and then I get up and be super fresh for work for 2-2,5 hours and then sleep again for 3-4 hours. I don’t even know why I complain about sleep deprivation nowadays because it’s nothing like back then.
This week years later I napped for an hour that too because I’m sick and had done all my cooking a day before, so I felt like I earned it; but even though the TV was on; the kids were screaming/fighting with each other, but I shut-off my mind for a bit and woke up somewhat relaxed. Don’t ask how that was relaxing by any means, but it was
