Do you remember A.I A.I. Artificial Intelligence, The movie?
Lets say that tomorrow, you can adopt/buy a robot/android that is replica (looks) of a love one that you lost, or someone you never had (a kid for childless couple lets say)? Do you see yourself falling in love with that artificial intelligent life form (now that is an oxymoron, but you know what I mean)?
Lets keep any sexuality out of it. I am not talking about life size artificially intelligent blow up dolls here.
Lets say that the android is not a replica of a known person, but just a machine that has potential to be a very good friend. Would you love him/her more than a real friend?
If I am lonely and have no real friend, then yes! =/
But you know friendship is about sharing stuff, you tell me yours..i'll tell you mine thingy goes. Would a machine be able to experience life like a real person? I don't know about that. In that case it'll be boring, no?
You never know I just might get very attached to that thing! I even tried to hide my tears while I was watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes when they leave Ceasar in that hell hole for chimps and he’s tortured but I couldnt get away with it and my husband was like
you were crying for a big ugly ape?!
So you never know I might actually start liking the android but for that it has to be as close as humanly possible in emotions and sensitivity plus the android should have a masoom face
We all see kids and even adults being emotionally attached to non-living objects. Dolls, memorabilia, pcitures and other objects. If people can be attached to non-living objects, I expect a higher emotional connection to a pseudo-living object (that an android is)
I don't know TLK. There has to be something physiologically different about a person or out of the norm to depend on an non-living object for any emotional support. We have pictures to keep memories and to remind us of the past but we do not go to them for daily emotional support.
Without human attachment (be it a child, spouse, etc.), humans are not complete.
Non-living objects = just sit there, no talkie no walkie, no interaction whatsoever
Pseudo living objects = Talkie walkie, interaction, perhaps a lil emotion from their side too (although this is very far fetched).
These two are very different and hence the bias. The doll won't be able to walk up to you or talk to you ( makes me remember the movie Child's Play and how I wasn't able to sleep properly even after weeks of watching it :( )
There are people out there who would kill a human if that human destroys some object that they cherish the most, like someone destroys the only picture of somone's kid who passed away. Point is, people can get more emotionally attached to a non-living/pseudo-living object than a real person.
^True! Haven't we seen people getting so attached with their gadgets, phones, cars etc. I think it's but natural and a gadget with artificial intelligence..it's quite likely to be close to them.
Also those attachments are so important to us because they cannot be replaced. But if an android starts making farting noises, chances are we're gonna get a new more advanced Mr.Android.
