A World Cup final - and the dampest of squibs. Pakistan were simply demolished by Australia, who hustled them out for 132 (extras top-scored, with 25) and smashed their way to an eight-wicket victory with a massive 29.5 overs to spare. It was quite simply a case of a great Australian team at the peak of the powers, and an enigmatic Pakistan side at their worst.
I still remember the day. It was a busy summer and my university exams were over right after the semi final with Kiwis. Didn’t get much chance to enjoy that WC thorougly, since some of the exam dates concided with few matches.
*So all the friends went to Sheraton Karachi to join the party and see the final on big screen. What happened next was painful. *
So how many of you still have memories of that fnal or is it simply too painful to remember
aahhhhhhhh I moved to US in March 1999 so it was only 3 months after my settlement. At that point I was still trying to settle my accounts jolted by the move. I and my 3 friends contributed to get the dish and bought the WC. We (my friends and me) all took a day off and gathered at my place to watch the final but I remember we all went to work next day rather than availing the leave :D ...It was painful !!!
I was at the ground, I spent more time getting to the ground and back home again than the time at the ground. It all started with Saeed Anwar changing the grip on his bat. :(
Remember it really well. Pakistan were simply smashed and no one could play a decent innings including dopey Inzi (no winning innings at that time against the best in the World).

Dopey Inzi was incorrectly given out caught behind by high on the dope English umpire Shepherd. Watch the replays.
^^ i had just gotten done with my FSC exams and there was nothing else than cricket in my life. Waited patiently for this game, when Anwer smashed MCgrath for 4 through Point, i was like yes...he is goonoo do it again, wasti looked too nervous on that day and that i think set the tone for Pak for rest of the day, wasit's dismissal, Waugh's catch was the best part of day for me and Anwer's two boundries in over made him look as regal as ever but after his wicket when Ijaz came in and started crawling, Pak didnt look like the team it has been whole tournament. infact nowhere ner the team that started that great season in Feb at Chennai.
To me that game was lost in head/mind and not on the field.
I doubt very much he would have made much difference or the result would have been different had he been not given out.
I agree probably wouldn't have made difference to the overall result but as you decided to highlight Inzi's failure it was only right to point out the obvious blunder made by Shephered.

^^ Same guy's Blunders help Pak Level the series on Old Trafford in 01 too.
I think Ehsan bhai is not trying to blame Shepherd for Pakistan’s defeat but just trying to emphasize the point that Inzi’s failure was due to Shepherd’s blunder.
As far as 2001 goes, Shepherd started showing signs of wear during that year. He gave alot of decisions against Pakistan during that series and after. This is what was said about him after Day 5 of Old Trafford test

What difference does that make, the point was that Inzi was singled out when the whole team failed, I just pointed out the obvious. I failed to see what 01 series had to do with the 1999 cup final.

So I guess Justice was done:)
Now you would upset Rock. How could Pakistan's jokers win a fair match?
I don't have a gr8 memory of our 1992 triump, 1999 though for me was the best WC to date. A lot of the players before the final 'painted the town red' and the effort was visible on their faces during the final; what preparation for the biggest match of your life.
It still hurts thinking about it. We camped at my uncles house for the night, the match was to start at 5am the following morning. I prayed and prayed and prayed so many nafl. sniff
