do you pay attention to these things?

just wondering how many of you ladies pay attention to/care about the following when selecting cosmetics and other beauty products like moisturizers, cleansers, etc:

  1. where it was made (for example- if you only prefer cosmetics made in the US, Canada, Europe as opposed to China, Taiwan, etc)

  2. if the company does animal testing

  3. if the item contains animal products

  4. if the products are paraben, sulfate, phthalate free- or name any other ingredient you don’t want in your cosmetics if you look for this

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

I don't really care where its made at all.

I do care if the company does animal testing and if it contains animal products.

And I also care if the products are paraben and sulfate free.

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

Never buy anything made in China :nono:

Never anything that has been tested or contains animal product :nook:

Try to buy products that are naturally sourced and contain as less chemicals as possible

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

1) I don't care. Regardless of where it's made, I still do my own research on the products reputation. But I will add that all my make-up/skin care is from brands that're well established in the U.S. and I've never purchased MU/Skin care items from small ethnic stores or over seas.

2) Don't care.

3) Don't care.

4) I only use sulfate-free shampoo. And I try to buy skin items that do not contain silicones since my skin is acne prone. I don't buy foundations/powders that have SPF.

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

I care about all of the above, then I only stick to those brands.
These days I am really trying eliminate a lot off my bathroom counter, for e.g dropping my daily moisturizer for coconut/almond oil, and replacing my eye cream with vitamin E capsules.

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

tell me about vitamin e capsules how to use them and where do buy them from any salon ?
or cosmetic store ?

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

buy mostly buy product for my skin from usa or canada uk ....
not animal tested and for dry or normal or sensitive skin
and natural non allergic produced

and if face wash or cleanser then soap free and gentle :)

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

for those of you that are against products tested on animals- do you actively research which brands don't test on animals before you buy?

i know there is this law in china now that if companies want to sell their cosmetics in china that they must be tested on animals- so a few companies that were previously cruelty free started testing so they could sell in china (i think urban decay was one of them and there was a huge uproar from the US customer base so they stopped)

but companies like l'oreal/maybelline, covergirl, avon, and many many more do animal testing

seems like if you avoid these companies you'll have very very very slim pickings in what you could purchase

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

you can get vit e capsules from the pharmacy- like the ones you would take orally- instead of eating them, you just prick the gel capsule and squeeze out the oil

just make sure the ingredients are pure vit e and nothing else

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

Is there a health reason for not wanting SPF in them or just because of the whitish cast they can give the skin?

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

The SPF in foundations/powders isn't enough to protect the skin. So I need a separate, good quality sunscreen anyway. And yes, b/c of the whitish cast, I don't wear anything with SPF when going out.

So instead of spending $ on separate foundations for daytime and special occassions....I just buy the ones I can wear all the time (plus I have a separate sunscreen to use during the day).

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

Every single medicine out there that you use was tested on animals and then on humans before it was approved for your use so why does animal testing become an issue when it comes to cosmetics? I always wonder about this when I hear makeup artists going on about their loyalty to companies that do not test on animals.

Re: do you pay attention to these things?

^I never personally said it was an issue for me- I'm looking for others views on it

And who said it wasn't an issue for pharmaceuticals? I'm sure people have issues with testing anything on animals. But this is the fashion and BEAUTY forum- that's why we're talking cosmetics here.

If someone feels that it is morally wrong to test on animals (like the makeup artists you speak of) then that is their right to feel that way. This thread isn't meant to be a debate on whether animal testing is right or wrong- only a discussion on whether it is important to people when choosing their cosmetics.
