just in case there’s a fire at your house…are there extremely important documents that you just can not afford to lose?..would you keep a fireproof safe in your house for imp. documents and things? or do you keep 'em safe at like a bank safe? or do you just say, ‘insha’allah a fire will never happen at my house, and i’ll keep my imp. docs in that drawer’…share your thoughts and give your input!

well..here's the thing - all official documents pretty much can be re-issued if reported lost, right?
so...is it necessary to safe guard them? you can get 'em re-issued and yea it'll take 'em time to process new copies..but you'll have it all again in a few months/year time.
Re: Do you own a fireproof safe?
I dont although that has been on my to do list for some time. procrastination and analysis paralysis really. I shoud just go and pick one up. The really critical documents are in a bank safe.
and even those that can be replaced, can eb hassle to replace, like passports, birth certificates etc.
Te recommendation that was given to me was to have scanned copies of your documents in one place, originals in another, and copies in another.

do u have a few months years time?
lets say you travel internationally for work, and you lose your passport, you have to prove your identity by other means, and if you dont have other forms of id then what? u tell your boss..dude I cant go for a few months?
regardless, if we are willing to put up with hassle, then isnt the hassle of putting stuff in a safe less of a hassle than chasing after different agencies for different documents, and in such a situation, making appointments, going in person, while working fulltime?
Re: Do you own a fireproof safe?
i think that safeguarding imp documents is a necessity. you either own a safety deposit box at a bank..or you keep one in your home. and not only should you keep personal docs in there..i'd make sure to stick a signed house ins policy in there as well. every1 pay heed to x2's recommendation of 3 diff locations.
Re: Do you own a fireproof safe?
I have scanned all my important documents and copied them to a CD which I keep in a safe deposit box in bank along with some other valuables.
I always travel with a copy of that CD that I keep up to date.
I don't have a fireproof safe box at home but its been in my to-do list for years. I almost picked one up that was marked down realy good from a store long time ago but it was wayyyyy too heavy and couldn't even move it an inch.

That is a good idea too. Thanks you saved me couple of hundred dollars.
Re: Do you own a fireproof safe?
Keeping it at the vault in the bank is a great way to preserve important documents and items as Asif mentioned.
But if u have a backyard, this way works best....
Go to a pirate accessories store. Get a small chest, dig up a pit in the backyard. Stick ur chest in it. It'll be safe for centuries, make sure u add treasure-related moth balls, preservatives whatever that helps not in the decaying process, to the chest before burrying it.
Re: Do you own a fireproof safe?
^ and each time you need to get ur documents you'll have to dig it back up? i dont think so...too much work lol...hope ur kidding :D
I have a safe deposit box at the bank...keep all our important documents there. I have photocopies of some of these documents at home to refer back to them if need be.

you still need a place to keep your original documents. most places require original documents and not photocopies.
CD is a great idea instead of keeping the loose copies at home though.
U keep a photo copy for everyday use na! Originals ki tuo kabhi kabhi zaroorath parthi hie, atleast in my case ![]()
Btw, digging & burying: its a good way to exercise, you know how we desis are, we hit the gym like once a month and keep bragging about it for the remaining 29 days (atleast in the case of guys)…
