Re: Do you know who invented Sindhi alfabet

I know the Sindhi writing was promoted at the time of british india. Basically Sindhi alphabet is arabic alphabet + some extra letters that are not in arabic.

Here is a little history of Sindhi language. This may help who are interested in the history of Sindhi language.

HISTORY

Sindhi is considered to have evolved from the Munda-related languages spoken by a group of ancient aboriginal Sindh tribes. Around 4000 B.C., Dravidian invaders conquered the Sindh and considerably influenced their language. This civilization and its language evolved and prospered until roughly 1500 B.C. when Indo-Aryan invaders conquered the Sindh and established the Vedic civilization that came to dominate the region and its numerous languages for hundreds of years. Today, Sindhi is primarily spoken in Pakistan, although a number of Sindhi speakers emigrated to India in 1947 when British India was divided.

One notable aspect of the history of Sindhi is that it was the first language that the Qur’an was translated into in rhymatic format. This translation took place sometime around or before the 12th century. Between the 14-18th centuries, Sindhi was one of the most popular literary languages in the eastern world. This is often attributed to the fact that the language had a vast vocabulary that surpassed the vocabularies of many of the major languages of its time.

Sindhi language](Sindhi language)

History

Arab and Persian travellers, specifically Abu-Rayhan Biruni in his book ‘Mal al-Hind’, had declared that even before the advent of Islam in Sindh (711 A.D.), the language was prevalent in the region. It was not only widely spoken but written in different scripts. Biruni has described many Sindhi words leading to the conclusion that the Sindhi language was widely spoken and rich in vocabulary in his time.

The Qur’an was first translated into Sindhi in rhymatic format. This was the first ever translation of Qur’an in the 12th century or earlier.

Sindhi was a very popular literary language between the 14th and 18th centuries. This is when sufis such as Shah Abdul Latif, Sachal Sarmast,Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (as well as numerous others) narrated their theosophical poetry depicting the relationship between humans and God.

Sindhi Culture is estimated to be about 4108 years old; When Mohenjo Daro (“Mound of the Dead”, an ancient city of the Indus Valley civilization) was dug out, a statue was found covered in Ajrak, which is one of the symbols of Sindhi culture.

sindhi alphabet is derived from persian alphabets not arabic.
also sindhi alphabet that we have may not be the original one as there are other variants of it as well gujrati etc.

so the one we have today may have came into being around 11-13th century after sufi and scholars from muslim world travelled here and wrote in the persian letter rather original.

Re: Do you know who invented Sindhi alfabet

^Sindh in Pakistan and all over Indo-Pak Subcontinent is the Door of Islam. Islam was spread in this region only from sindh first then afterwards it spread to other places as well.

and that is something very much excellent acheivement for Sindhi bros and sis to be proud of as well as for all of us Pakistanis.

:)

That is wrong. Islam in Subcontinent spread from Afghanistan and Iran. Hajjaj's attack on Sindh was not very successful in converting vast majority of people of Subcontinent.
It was only later through MASS MIGRATION of Muslims (including sufis) from the West that people of Subcontinent overwhelmingly accepted Islam. Hajjaj's sole Umvi attack on Sindh was in no way able to convert people of Subcontinent on its own.

This is why Pakistan's culture is closer to Perso-Turkic Central Asia than Arabic Middle East.

Like I said, there was a MASS MIGRATION of Muslims from West into Subcontinent. This is why a lot of people in Pakistan (and Bharat) have family names like Bukhari, Subzwari, Pasha, etc. Even people who call themselves Syed actually came from Afghanistan and Iran, instead of coming directly from Arabi lands.

Re: Do you know who invented Sindhi alfabet

Mustve been the first sindhi guy. :)

Re: Do you know who invented Sindhi alfabet

Guessing from the O.P, Benazir Bhutto

Sindh has produced well know sufis, politicians and other personalities. Some are as follows:

Usman Marwand aka Lal Shahbaz Qalinder
Sachal Sarmast
Shah Latif
Shaikh Abdul Majid Sindhi
Shaikh Ayaz
Quid-e-Azam
GM Syed
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto
Benazir Bhutto
Abdusattar Edhi

Quaid e Azam was born in Karachi, but he was not Sindhi. He spoke Gujrati.

Where is Karachi situated? USA, Canada or Jinnah Pur of Altaf Hussain. Karachi has always been part of Sindh, any one who born or lives in Karachi is technically Sindhi. Can you please keep your mqm or other ethenic hatred out of this thread?

Can you prove or quote link what you are saying? It seems it is your own created history mixed with some facts. Don't derail the thread by your misguided thoughts. Say something genuine about Sindhi language. Keep your prejudices away from the thread.

I agree with you here 100%. A very nice gasture. If every one thinks and acts like you, there would have been no hatred due to different languages, cultures etc. in Pakistan. :)

Calm down. It is not about MQM or Altaf. Actually, MQMers would dislike what I say.
QA was born in Karachi, but his family was based in Bombay. This is why he spoke neither Urdu nor Sindhi, but Gujrati.

What I am saying is that Subcontinent became Muslims through efforts of Muslims coming from West of Subcontinent, who spoke Persian and Turkish.

What do you need proven? What links are you looking for? I think whatever I said is very obvious and everyone agrees with it.

This is why Muslims of Subcontinent have Perso-Turkic culture, instead of Arabic culture.
