To me self control is when i have a choice between halal or haram and i choose halal.
Insha'allah we live for Islam. So when i am confronted with a woman for example self control for me is not simply following my human desires and having sex with a woman but actually chossing Islam as a criteria and rejecting the idea. That for me is self control. When my desires push me in the wrong direction but i choose Islam and regulate my actions.
And to the one who spoke about the prophet having revelation. That is fine but he was a human being and just like you and me he possesses the same desires and instincts so just like I would find a woman attractive so would he, but he judged by Islam.

Ok ... Chosen slaves in Urdu is "muntakhib banday" ..... the men that have been specially chosen by Lord( Allah) to serve His cause....!! Well you say to put religion aside but that is my actual criteria for action so it is difficult to comment. If i have a desire then I have two ways of dealing with it, an Islamic way and an Unislamic way. I would deal with it in an Islamic way but if i wasn't Muslim i wouldn't have an Islamic criteria so i would probably just follow instinct an go with the flow, 'just do it'. The only reason i wouldn't is simply because i am Muslim and i don't want to burn eternally for my zina and that IS my criteria.
Two choices. Islam or Kufr and i pick Islam. Heaven or Hellfire. I pick Heaven. Thats just how i see things. If i didn't judge by Islam then naturally a man has his sexual instinct and society teaches promiscuity so i would follow society over Islam but fortunately i don't.
