You know who is going to do vacuum cleaning , who is going to do dusting , who is going to take the trash out .
Like the day and chores are assigned to each member of the family.
In Western societies they have made it a formal process. They will have list posted somewhere.
Hey they even have a service http://chorebuster.net/ where you can create your own list and assignments and it will send email and SMS to the person who is supposed to do it. :bummer:

Everyone takes care of their own room, ((though I miserably fail at that) we have a cleaning lady but usually mom does the cleaning around house, vacuum etc if needed . Other little stuff e.g. picking dropping someone if needed is usually my job.
I'll take care of the vacuuming, we collect the garbage together but I take it out. She does most of the other stuff. We don't have a list, but we pretty much know what we have to do.
Don’t have actual list but its usually standard, Sister A will always do the vacuuming, sister B - making beds and cleaning around, and me …well I’m always cleaning the bathrooms

its somewhat divided,
my areas of focus are trash and recycling, vacuuming which is all bedrooms, upstairs hallways and stairs, and bathrooms
begum gets to mop the floor which is all hardwood downstairs, mostly do laundry, all for her and the kids, off and on mine, since i like to do my own laundry usually, and tackle kids rooms
kitchen counters and dishes are a shared responsibility.

My husband only does the cooking, now and then (when he feels like it) and yeah, he serves himself (yeah thats a chore that he saves me from)… baaqi mein karti hoon

I do everything myself once in a blue moon hubs will decide he has run out of clean banyaans and run a load of laundary or use the vaccum.

Collectively as a family we do not have a list but every morning I make a to do list with things I need to do/would like to do and some of them are household chores.
hmmmm how does he clean banyans with a vacuum?

When we were younger and the kids were all at home, the girls (3 of us) would divide the weekly chores - 1) bathrooms, 2) vacuuming, 3) mopping the floors and dusting. The daily chores, i.e. clean-up after dinner and washing the dishes was assigned to us by giving us two assigned days a week each.
Despite all of this, my mum still did the bulk of the work in that she is a neat freak - so she would do her daily cleaning which included all of the above plus the cooking.
The guys were responsible for trash and outside the house chores (lawncare and snow shovelling).
So, yes there was a list - just not written down.

I don't divide any chores, honestly. It comes to a point when something gets dirty enough, that I just fit in time and clean it, preferably when I'm angry and need to vent my frustration out on an object.

Sounds like our home- we were 3 sisters too and for some reason, I would ALWAYS end up cleaning the bathrooms, may be cuz I was the younger one- so sad!
Now, its my sister and me- and I usually do all the safayee, bartan and stuff since she can't be bothered at all. Hopefully, I'll get a hubby who's more interested in chores than I am iA :)

When I am home my chores include:
- Watching TV
- Surfing the net
- Having fresh juices and food delievered to me at the PC or TV.
- Sleep whenever I want
- Eat at all times with parents.
And no I am not joking. When I come home I am treated as a prince.
