The thing with this game is that once you start and learn the basics you get hooked. I wish I was a school teacher or something and get the summer off and just go play golf everyday.
You are right about the short plays. I'm just in love with my wedges. Lately I go to the range and the driver stays in the bag and its just my 3 wedges hitting the balls. I found this one range where you get 200 balls for $20 weekdays in the morning. Now I have to figure out how to get there before leaving for work.
One of the biggest reasons I was missing GIR's was the inaccuracy of the tee-off. While driver will hit straight 60-70% of the time, my wood shots slice horribly. Hybrids are no good either. Part of the reason is that for my club speed, I really need Stiff shaft, but what I have is Regular. This creates too much club movement in the downswing and result is impossible control over the slice. So until I change my clubs (esp. wood), I am sticking to my 5 iron. When hit properly I usually get about 220 from my 5 iron (not hybrid) and its fairly accurate. In addition, I am working to close my grip in the follow-through after impact to allow the ball to draw or only fade slightly (and not slice). Its still a work in process.
Short game is showing a lot of improvement with a good percentage of up-and-down on the course. Lack of familiarity with the green speed on new courses still results in a few putts too many, but the courses that I play regularly, I am keeping my putting to below 2.0
5 iron hitting 220 is pretty good.. you seem like a long hitter. If you have a fast swing (which it seems is the case), then you should definitely get a stuff shaft in ur woods... another reason simply could be too much zor, leaving the clubface open at contact, resulting in slice. If you can get the chipping right and never 3 putt... you'll dramaticallyreduce your score. The fact that you can hit your 5 iron 220 is all the more reason to not hit your least accurate club (driver) as often. Ideally, 3 wood with a stiff shaft should be a fairly accurate club after some practice and can be used very effectively.
Many different ways to counter slice.. everyone has their own way... some close the clubface slightly, others use a slightly closed grip, bring it forward (slight left of your regular position assuming ur a rightie), a closed stance (aiming at the target normally, but ur left foot being slight forward and towards the balls, making it a slightly closed stance often used to get draw as well. Then thers the trick with the wrists... can get a bit hard to perfect it, but does wonders... I wish I had a natural draw in my shots.... its an ideal thing to have, so thats something you can work on,,, and a hook is always better than a slice and easier to fix. Also, draw will give you more distance than a slice.
I think once a person knows how to play and knows enough about golf,,, seeing those PGA professional sure opens your eyes and its amazing how good these guys really are, cos you now have an appreciation for the toughness of this beautiful game.
Not sure how many of you follow PGA tour. Some think its the most boring sport on television. I beg to differ. The just concluded PGA Championship in Tulsa being a case in point.
Tiger won.
So what else is new. Sunday had a few people actually thinking whether the unthinkable can happen. Will Tiger falter? Will he lose for the first time after coming with a lead on Sunday? It didn't happen, after all. Woody and Ernie made a run, but they can't close it. This is what Tiger does.
But for me the best round was Friday's 63. That was a golf clinic right there. Amazing stuff. I recorded it in HD and its wonderful even after three full viewings.
Post script: Woody Austin... what a windbag! Dude, go win a SINGLE major before opening that big mouth of yours about how good a player you are. You are mentally weak. You are a lousy putter (Friday's 70 vs Tiger's 63). And you seriously need to zip it.
The thing with Tiger is that if he's in the lead he stays there. Once he falls behind earlier on he doesn't come up. But he does play well under pressure.
Anywho, why don't u put the video on somewhere online. I gotta start recording too, been missing it during the day.

Hahaha. Yes, I know what you mean. My wife thought the same until recently.
About six months ago, I bought my 7 year and 5 year kids junior golf set each, and have been taking them to the driving range at my club. I also took my wife along and got her to hit a few balls. She too is now hooked and takes the kids to the driving range and hits a few b alls herself. :)
On a personal note, since my last post above, my uncle gave me his TaylorMade R7 XD iron set (regulat steel shaft) which he had only used hlaf a dozen times (he no longer plays golf due to ill health).
I have played 7 rounds with them over the last three weeks and they are absolutely brilliant. They are about half a club longer than my MX 23's and have a slightly higher launch.
I have added a couple of other clubs to my set; TaylorMade R7 Steel Fairway (7 Wood), and Srixon WG-504 wedge (60 degree). They have both been a great addition, especially Srixon Wedge. I have a lot more confidence around the green and and take on the pin lot more due to greater back spin and ball stopping rapidly.
Although the handicap remains at 11, I feel a lot more confident and know this will improve.
With regards to Tiger Woods and the USPGA, yes that round of 63 was something special. I wonder how one of the commentator now feels when he at the start of the tournament said that it is very unlikely TW will win here as the golf course will not suit his style, and pointed to TW's previous tournament record at this course. :D

This actually reminds me of this one skit in Fifty Fifty where the commentator was saying good things about this one hockey player whereas he was the worst player and later they show that there's this guy sitting behind him with a gun. :)
On the golf side, this weekend I borrowed the R5 driver from a friend and was really impressed with it, added about 20-30 yards to my drives right out of the box. But I'm still holding back on upgrading my set. Wanna see if i keep playing and its not one of the phases I usually go thru. I'll probably go thru this season with my starter set.
I donot…I say DONOT consider Golf a “SPORT”…or lets just say its a sport for the oldies who cant move much more then walk with their caddy:rotfl:..(ok I know our denzel Washington JR is a young lad)…or think a million times before they can finally make a shot..are they asking the Golf Gods for a clearance before they can finally yell “Fore”…and the golf gods finally say “Play”
On the serious note…my convenient Generalizing is based on my GENERALIZING spree today:D…So PEACE Golfer brothers and sisters… and being thrown sand on, while trying to videotape a golfer swinging(on the side note…thanks God I didnt actually took a swing…then again…darn it…would have won me the funniest video of the year award if he was successful:bummer:
I just came back from a trip and the stupid airline ppl broke my golf bag :(.
So I was thinking whether I should duct-tape the bottom, where the plastic is all busted up, or actually buy a new bag
Anywho, I have a few questions:
Does the 13+ compartments really make a difference?
Any particular brand/feature I should be looking for?
As for aesthetics, does it matter if clubs and bag don’t have same brand?
Pricewise I don’t wanna go overboard but don’t wanna cut myself short either. All suggestions welcome.
: 13 compartment should be ample enough. Not many people carry the alloawable 14 clubs. I have a Mizuno Aerolite II with a 7 way divider. If you have head covers for your irons, then no need tyo worry about damage to club head.
: With regards to brand and features, the brand should not make much difference. However, with regards to features, make sure you ave enough pockets to carry additional gear that you might need, e.g. water proofs, drink, extra balls etc.. For me the weight of the bag was very important. I wanted something light with reasonable storage space, which my Mizuno Aerloite provides and is under 2KG.
: It does not matter whether you have the same brand of golf bag as your club. The fact that until recently I was using both the Mizuno clubs and the bag was a coincidence because I bought the bag for its features (light weight and just enough storage). I am now using TalorMade clubs, but still using the same Mizuno bag.
Having 13+ compartments is really not important, rather I'd think it will create more work. While playing, you'd probably keep your most used clubs on the top dividers of the bag anyway. Even a 7-divider should work fine. Having no dividers, though, will make it messy.
lo ji gayee bhains paani mein, got invited by senior mgmt to join them and some clients for golf in sept..at this shindig done for client execs in some exotic locale each year..
and i suck..
I will just embarass myself on teh golf course, butr I am not going to miss out on the frikkin retreat .. may have to injure my hand or get strategic food poisoning...
and better start taking lessons so next time I can play somewhat decent :D
I just played the DHA and Karsaz courses. Karsaz is very tough, Par 3's with water between the T and the green, very very itimidating. I lost a lot of balls, needless to say.
