Re: Do you get less sawab if you read the Quran in a language other than Arabic?
Third String,
I know that we get 10 rewards for each letter of every word that we read. Well, those letters are written in the Arabic language, not in English. I would recommend that you read in both languages; don’t avoid the Arabic altogether. I also suggest watching Nouman Ali Khan’s tafseer videos because he explains the Arabic as well…(the meaning of the words, prefixes, singular and plural) and sometimes he even connects the Arabic words to Urdu. This will help develop your understanding of Arabic to an extent…to where when you’re reading the Quran…you’ll recognize some of the Arabic words and have some idea of what the verses are about.
Read the English so you get at least some understanding of the Quran…and then you can supplement that with videos from a scholar who has a strong grasp of classical Arabic…and that will make your Arabic recitation a more meaningful experience. But don’t skip the Arabic.
Redvelvet: Can you pls share an authentic hadith which says about getting reward for reading the words in Quran. There are few people who don’t agree with this and if you can share some reference it would be great help to me.
