I am inquisitive. Not creepy at all. Creepy would be pretending to be a guy and talking to a girl. Sometimes you wanna know how the other side thinks. I’m not the only girl who has done this. But then I suppose it is weird to some, but thats me. smile

Interestingly, I’ve never asked for pictures from any girl I got to know online. I prefer to stay anonymous with most people, but have sent my pictures to a handful of people only to ‘reassure’ them, and not to reassure myself. I know there’re plenty of people who would feel insecure while talking to a person they haven’t seen. Considering the number of weirdos online, these are understandable concerns.
I have received some pictures from women (friends) without my asking them to do that. Needless to say, those pictures were deleted within 24 hours, even when nobody had the access to my computer. Why? I take it seriously when some woman, who may not like the idea of the whole world looking at her, emails her picture specifically to me.
There’s a second category of pictures online. Public pictures. My opinion is that when someone posts his/her picture online, s/he makes it possible for everyone to see him or her. I had a few pictures online that were accessible for everyone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody from the Antarctic told me that he’d seen me somewhere. I’m not supporting exchanging pictures. But what I’m trying to say is that once it’s public, it is public. (Many times it is public even when you didn’t want it to be public). There would be people who would never misuse these pictures, but there’s no dearth of those who can exchange your pictures with others, and even post them on different sites. It’s the very nature of WWW.
Let me give you an example. I’ve seen pictures of the same person on different online profiles, with different names, and different personal details. And I know that there’re not many girls crazy enough to do things like that. First time, when I observed this phenomenon, I was a little surprised. But now I know that a woman or man is not ‘bad’ only because you’ve seen her/his picture on strange places. S/he may be a victim. Just don’t make up your opinion about anyone on the basis of some online profile you came across.
There’re all sorts of people who post their pictures for all sorts of reasons. It’s impossible to generalize. Some people take it seriously. Some don’t take it seriously. The world is changing. You can do google search on a ‘stranger’, and may find something (true or false) about him. It’s amazing how this bloody inforrmation revolution has invaded our privacies. There’re ethical and legal issues involved when you exchange some other person’s personal data without their permission. We need to discuss this aspect of the problem as well.

That’s whats scary to me as well. I have some guy friends that actually alter pictures for girls so they can put them online. Alteration to make the person look nicer, etc. That is another reason I asked about the insecurity issue. Why do girls do this?
I agree, there are legal and ethical issues involved. Thats what I told the guy who asked me for a good looking guy’s pic. He didnt care.
One of my guy friends, after I showed him a pic of mine, told me never to give out my pics again cause they can end up on porn sites. Same face, different body. I was horrified! Since then I dont give out my pics at all. I rarely did it, but now I just dont do it. Oh, and not to mention the time I showed my pic to a GIRL and she showed it to all her guy friends. afsoos

Hehe. I am insecure about a lot of things TNWB, but that isnt the reason I stopped giving out my pic. smile
My message is simple. Be very careful of giving out your pics and posting them. Know what goes on, because if you ever do find out someone mishandled your pic or passed it out, you wont be as surprised.

I did that a long time ago Shikra. Not anytime recently. Yes, a long time ago I was a lot more insecure about my looks. However, I think I learned something by doing it. Whether people disagree with my methods or not, fact remains that what I said does go on, and many guys I know will agree with me.
It wasnt only online people. But I wont go into that.
I still stand by the reason i posted this. Which is to inform others and get people talking about this. Obviously its a sensitive issue to many.
I myself never gave my opinion on this, as I was never asked.
But again, my reasons for posting this was to inform. And I think its been accomplished.
