Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
I made the mistake of trimming my kids' hair when they were infants-toddlers until one day I found out they looked horrible.
There's a shop at the mall...forget the name, but it's especially for kids haircuts. They make you sit on an animal and give you a sucker. That's good for a child who may need distraction. Now I just take my kids to a regular hair salon and they love it. Once I've even had my little child sit on my lap while the hairdresser cut her hair.
The key to a good haircut is what mommy can manage until they are old enough to take care of it. I made the mistake of letting my little daughter's hair grow real long and while it looked pretty, it would get tangled and we'd go through half hour each morning before school to make it look reasonable. I realized that I could use that time for breakfast instead. I tried all hair oils, conditioners and detanglers, but it didn't work out so I ended up having it cut to a nice shoulder length.
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
i do.... in a bathtab just before giving them a bath... my older one (4+) is pretty good, but my younger one (3+) makes lots of fuss but it doesnt bother me .....
well kids love lollipops during haircut (although i dont give them to my kids) ...u can try lollipops or have your kid sit infront of tv and then try cutting hair. ....
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Do you guys just do a straight blunt cut, or do you get fancy with shapes and layers?
My 2yo hasn't had a cut in a year. She's got cute curls which I'm afraid will go when chopped. That is sad. But the hair is getting unruly for her, unless she lets me tie it up (she's better about that lately). Her first cut was at a kids' salon and it was a terrible experience. I figured maybe I'd try it myself for a few months.
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
I do ! My younger one is veryyyyy fussy about it. I tried everything ! So i get a full fledge 'hajaamat' done for him at salon once and next 3-4 months, I do it with a shaver every week (he lets me do it at times). For elder one, i shave/neat up his neck on the back and all every two weeks
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Do not do it ureself! U need a degree or something to that efdect if u wanna be able to cut xurly hair! I would cut midget's but then they got xurly and then it tirned into a bush... A lush one... So now we go to a proper salon with a car for a seat and a very very fast haircutter... We are done in 5 mins...yes... 5 mins! That fast... I think for me that was the key...distraction in the form of a car shaped chair to sit on...and the barber being ultra fast... Cuz otherwise he would have a meltdown..
Re: Do you cut your child’s hair?
Just 3 days ago when I was giving her a bath I was trying to figure out if I can do it myslef.I don’t think so.
She got a slight trimming by my mom,in the bath tub when she was a year old. After that her hair grew for about 6 months and were too curly. They were flat on the top and lots of curls at the ends.I took her to the mall and got a haircut from Mastercuts. She sat in their chair and they did a haircut. She was not too thrilled about it,but it was easy as she never moved a lot or fussed.Like you I was way too fond of her curls and told them just to cut a little all around. They did not do a nice job.
She got another haircut in Pakistan 2 months ago. They really chopped off a lot (:(),but they looked good overall.
Now it is a mess again…she does not let any clip etc stay, and the curls are all over the place.I feel they do not look neat anymore.I have no intention to take her back to Mastercuts and have no other idea what to do.I was thinking of maybe taking her to the desi place where I get my eyebrows etc done. But call me superstitious,I do not trust the cleanliness of their combs and scissors…![]()
I would not suggest you try it at home, especially when you have never done it.Curls are harder than straight hair to trim IMO and you would not want to ruin that. For kids this young I suppose a trimming would be the better thing to do rather than anything fancier.
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Do they have any salons like Melonhead in your neighbourhood?
I cut my son's hair for a while when he was between 1-2 years old. He was terrified of going to the hairdresser and only trusted me to cut his hair. He looked really cute, but the haircuts were pretty bad. :D I would put him in his high chair and cut away.
He likes going to Melonhead now. First couple of times he was really scared and I had to hold his hands and hug him during the haircuts, but he is good now.

My mom has done sara's hair cutting 2 times. she hav curly hairs nd refuses any hair accessories so hav to cut them up. Once when she was a year old we opened babytv nd she was busy watching it. Second time when she was 22 months. It was a big trouble...we opened tv gave her ipad, lollipop but nothing worked...we ended up hubby holding her tight nd mom cutting her hairs.
Mom did Abudi's cutting last week...he was busy watching tv nd mom was done in 5 mins.
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
My daughter's hair is curly only at the ends, and the curls turn into waves if I don't wash her hair one day. In the shower it is completely straight.
I'm so tempted to try it myself!
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
no - they don't let me touch their hair. That's good
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Try it...not like she's getting an imp pic taken or getting married morrow :D ... See how it goes... Im giving genie a mohawk soon :D
Re: Do you cut your child’s hair?
Parents, please …for heaven sake… NEVER NEVER do this, unless you are shaving their head or you have worked as a barber in the past. We already have enough cartoons on the TV

Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Shaving the hair is easy to do for boys at home, but of course not for girls. Take them to salon please as u r not prof. Btw, i had my daughter hair cut done yesterday for $12. And she is not old enough to get layers and stlyes etc. Kid should look like kid.

i was thinking of getting her one of those floral wreaths flower girls wear :D
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
If there is a wedding so close then leave it for a while if possible (I am not sure how they actually look and if you can just leave them).Even if you decide to get a cutting, don't do it at home...it is actually not that easy as it looks.
I love curls on mine.I love them even when they are messed up in the mornings.I have never wanted to get a haircut for her,but then I also know regular trimmings are required for healthy growth.
Re: Do you cut your child's hair?
Sahar, munchkin had the curliest hair as a kid, up till she was 3 people would ask me if i put rollers in her hair.... i never got fringes done for her... just trims.. and i think the first one i got was when she was about 2 and a bit.. cant even remember.
but no fringes ever.. and hair long enough for it to be tied back.. my only criteria..
now her hair is so straight people often ask me if ive straighted it :S i wish it were curly again..
i have got a bit of layers for her now.. and also cus her hair is (Mashallah) so thick, we've had to get it thinned out.. looks nice and is manageable
