Well yes and no. Yes, because it doesn't serve any "national" purpose other than may be someone getting bit of more info/educated on some issues. No, because it does serve human behavioral/psychological purpose, if we don't vent out our frustration/anger at a particular issue it might result in bad impact on our mental health (in turn resulting in bad physical health). However, in such drawing room debates no one should get physical :D.

I don't think that is good enough generalization. People in US also talk about politics, issues at hand, not so sure about international issues :D. BTW, Pakistani drawing room talks also include sports and religious talks :)
