do we really know who we are?

I thought a lot where to put this post and then decided to post in PA. In last few months we have so many debates on this forum where we were discussing many Pakistan-based issues and politics based on ethnic grounds and based on racial alignments… and we were accusing each other for many things. And i thought this video must be watched by all of us, especially the ones who are very proud of their religion, culture, heritage, nationality and ancestry…how i wish, everyone in pakistan goes through the DNA test to map their ethnic roots, they will be shocked!

Re: do we really know who we are?

I don't think the problem will get solved in this way. If the region that a person belong was not a part of her country her patriotism and sentiments would be different. Suppose a person convert to other religion then her children would hate or would not hate his previous religion, it depends on what they are taught and how they think. Parents teach their kids best teachings. They teach what is right what is wrong, not to hurt others, respect everybody but when kids grow they forget these teachings. They see the world is vast, it is not limited to their region, culture, religion, there is diversity and they should be taught to respect it.

Some begin to think oh my region/country is superior, my culture, literature is superb, my religion is superior and true, we are advanced people etc etc
- Okay, your country is good, you live comparatively easier life. We are doing for betterment of our country. Okay your culture and literature is fine, we have our own distinct culture and literature and we are refining it. okay your religion is good and true, our religion is also true, we are doing reforms to eradicate evils in our religion. You are advanced people, we are striving hard and progressive. That is okay.

Now humiliation comes.

My country/region is awesome, We have this and that, you people are dirty and inherently inferior to us, you have nothing to be proud of. My culture and literature is way superior to yours, you are uncultured, uncivilized people. My religion is the only truth, yours is corrupt and false, my way or no way. We are way ahead of you, you are nothing before us.
- Okay your country is awesome, we are looking what are our weaknesses and working over them. We have certain things that we are proud of. Okay your religion is true and you think my religion is false, I do not think my religion is false. There are people who think all religions are false.

Actually constructive debates should be organized on each topic. We agree or not that’s a different thing. If we are weak in any sense, we should work upon it. If there is any problem, we should analyze the problem and find ways to solve it. Calling ourselves weak again and again won't help. Why should we look down upon ourselves? If a person is ill, what do we say? We say get well soon.

If we are religious, we should tell our children good teachings of our religion. If we are not religious we should teach good things. We should be able to see beauty of diversity; there are different countries, cultures, languages, religions, sects, different ideas etc That doesn’t mean we should not raise voice against what we think is wrong and injustice but we should debate it instead of harming others. There could be many opinions on a single topic. What I mean to say is - the solution of these social problems lies in open debates and thinking process.
Above are my views, carry on the debate

Interestig video but the reaction of the people looks un real. Also the german guy and the turkish lady I got it from beginning . So what they reacted was not very real.

You can't be absolutely free from bias. Scientifically, human thinking is influenced by bias. But what is important you evaluate yourself regularly. Well, there are number of factors and distractions against your neutral being but If you realize you have bias you can overcome it to some extent.
