At my work if you are sick and go to work everybody gets mad at you , they have this notion that you will spread the virus you have . So I stay at home. I have this option of working from home sometimes I do that too.

Depends, of course. If your malady is infectious and contagious pls take pity on others and don’t go around infecting other people in your zeal to impress that you are a devoted worker. Your own productivity will be down, you will not recover quickly and you will likely take a few co-workers down with you. Of course, if you work on deadline projects, have no back-up resource to step-up in your place and you can work remotely, it may become necessary to work through sickness.
The temptation to work through sickness, in part may be due to generational difference. Many older people hardly took any vacations (“I even went to work on my wedding day”, one of my uncles proudly claims even now). It was a matter of showing your dedication towards your work (and employer).
Not any more.
Hopefully, the new generation believes that taking regular vacations is an important part of life. It helps maintain a necessary balance. Vacations are earned and they should be utilized. Especially if you are sick or really need time off to quickly get back in top form. There should be no loss of face.

Most of the time I do, unless I'm REALLY sick... there is an overflow of escalations at my job (especially on Mondays grrr) and i'm the lead on my team. Also I really cant stand the dirty looks from the rest of my team when I come back in for having to pick up my work lol...
