i have always read in many places that we should throw away makeup after few months because they develop germs and bacteria and that is not good for the skin.
there are even expiration time from different products, i am not sure about the exact time, but for foundation it is 6 months i guess, for mascara it’s 3 months dry eyeshadow about a year or so. basically you shouldn’t keep ur makeup for over an year.
so many question is how many of u throw away makeup after about a year of use?
some of my makeup is really expensive (for me at least, i am a student and i do not work so i can’t really spend all that much on makeup products after every few months)
i have been using that one clinique’s mascara called high impact mascara since more than two years and it works perfect. i spent $13 on it, and it really worth it. but i can’t spend $13 after every three months.
i also have loreal’s mineral foundation and blush since august 2007 and it’s working fine, doesn’t break me out or anything cuz it’s old so i don’t want to throw it away.
i also bought urban decay’s primer potion and 10 color pallet 2.5 years ago and it’s barely used because it’s so pigmented that i don’t need much so there are a lot of product left in there and there is no way i want to toss it out just cuz it’s more than two years old.
i am just asking everyone’s opinion on it, to see what u guys do because i was feeling a bit guilty for keeping my makeup for so long
yanzala, I recommend just keep your brushes clean , wash them occasionally, my Aunt works in the cosmetic manufacturing industry and she used to say that like most things cosmetics too have a certain shelf life , however throwing your make up away after a few months is nothing but a marketing stunt !
that is the very reason we dont get break outs even if we use make up 3 years older ! however the key is that you should regularly clean your brushes ... even your mascara brushes .... alot of my friends only throw away things if they are like 5 years older .... not even then if the product is working fine ...
So chill I say , if make up was meant to be thrown away every few months they wouldnt have priced it that expensive ! :@:
i dont throw my stuff away if its working fine like if it hasnt changed colour or smells bad. but im careful about eye make up specially mascara. sum mascaras have 6 months time but i throw it away as soon as it dries up a little and doesnt go on smoothly.
liquid make up goes bad quickly while powder or dry make up can stay longer.
long story short i jst keep my brushes clean and dont throw away make up if it doesnt look or smell bad.
I think eye makeup should not be used if older than 1 year, simply because the eyes are a very sensitive area and you could be at risk for getting an eye infection.
yanzala - How is it that your mascara has not dried out after 2 years? I find that mine start drying out after 2-3 months (and I barely even use the mascara....maybe 2 or 3 times a month) yet it STILL dries out so fast.
No - specially if i pay a lot of money for it..lke my blushes and eyeshadows! Helllllllll no...a few months!! I am willing to throw away my foundation after a year or two if I can clearly tell that theeres eomthing wrong with it.

i have no clue. i was telling this to my friend the other day and she was really surprised too. i use this mascara a lot, and it is still working so good that i don't feel like buying another one. i can tell that it is starting to dry but it's still not clumpy.
i have read in some place that if u pump ur wand in and out too much it takes air inside of the tube and the mascara starts to dry out, since clinique's mascara is really good i don't need to do that i just take the wand out brush my lashes with it and do the other eye, and i am done. i don't pump the wand in and out to get the product out since there is enough product on it when i take it out the first time. other than that i have no clue how my mascara is still working so good even after all that time.
