Ume-Z: per your post above (81 & 82).
In sports bars, you don't have to sit in the bar area. if you sit in the dining room, its not as bad as you are thinking. A lot of people don't smoke. And it doesn't smell bad. same is the case with the other bars too. Ofcourse it depends on what kind of bar it is. I mean, we don't go those gangster bars.
Going with them to bars is not a religious activity. so we can't really compare it with Eid or Christmas.
But as for your question, I always arrange Eid lunch/dinner for my Muslim & non-Muslim friends. They invite me too. so yes, we share the celebration part. but no one has ever forced anyone to do anything in particular.

I guess i do similar to most guppies here. Hang out at the bar (or pub 
damn british) for a while till people start getting too buzzed. Then i finish my diet coke and “then i am out like a thief in the night” (What the *es want from a n - DMX)

I went for a meal today at a pakistani halal restaurant where they also serve alcohol. I had no choice but to go as my 'gora' work colleagues chose it as they know that I would not go to a pub/club. I had my coke as they drank their cobra.

Its all bout mentality.
A desi mentality sees a Pub as a place to get drunk.
Where as its not at all.
Pubs are like coffee shops where people get together, play pool, watch sports, drink beverages of their choice and have meals.
People dont just go there to get drunk, they can do that at home too.
To carry on with the argument, all muslims shouldnt be living in western countries baba, its haram.
They are only for white people who drink, have sex and Parrrrrrrrrrty.
Muslims should go back to middle east where its all Islam Islam.

it's pretty much unavoidable :) going there doesn't mean u have to drink urself...u're just going to socialize with ur friends/colleagues...

I didnt go through all the replies, so if im repeating what somebody has already said...........
BUT....if you leave from a masjid ppl will call you a namazi.
if you leave from a pub, ppl will call you a sharabi.
on the day of judgement you will be raised with those with whom you associated with. For a muslim, his image is obviously representing him. Drinking in a pub, or not drinking, doesnt make a difference. when you are in a pub, or a dance club, whatever etc. that is representing you.
this isnt a extremist view as the only thing extreme about a view is what seems out of limits for YOU and well, conquer your limits.
