yes I agree with Sahar02. Although some people here are saying that there's nothing to celebrate since it decreases one year of your life...??
does that mean each day we should be sad because as the day goes by it decreases one day of our life doesn't it?
So saying that you shouldnt celebrate because it decreases a year from your life doesn't make much sense. If you don't want to celebrate for other reasons that's up to you.
And yes Sahar it's about being thankful for what you have and a nice day where you feel appreciated by your loved ones.

I also threw a surprise party for my husband this year to show him how grateful I am to have him in my life :D

it doesn't mean we should be sad, I didn't even say that. Do we need only bdays to show how blessed we are? I'm not against bdays, I used to celebrate them, too till I realized ke aggar meyn chanda doon ga, to kitna achaa hoi gaa ye bday banaane ke mukable meyn...
One year less makes sense, because you have one year less to "deserve" the jannat...And you never know when you're time has come...
It's personal choice. Please don't think I hate bdays or I'm against people who celebrate their bday. It's personal choice I said. I only asked these questions. It was a great answer by Sahar02.
hmmm Yes you're right...Obviously it's your bday it's completely up to you if you want o celebrate or not but you said

and that surprised me because at the end of each day should we be like happy lost day? I kinda get your point of view though a lot of people say that and I guess people of their own opinions :)

of course…but it is just a family get-together…food and gifts (from sibz n parents)…and calls from frndz.
the point is only to spend some quality time…besides it also shows affection when sibz or parents put effort to specially find a gift for u 
ps. when my mama gives me hug…that is the most beautiful moment of that day, mA :jano:

I had awesome birthday parties until the age of 7...
I do not remember celebrating my birthdays after that...
even this year, I ended up helping in moving of a friend's apartment on my birthday :(

whoever said that bday r sad bcs they mean a year less of ur life..im sorry but that jsut does not make any sense..bcs u never know when u r going to die..maybe a young person will die earlier than an old person..u never now about kismat..

I do not celebrate mine or my wife's birthday , but we do celebrate our kids birthday, but since they are growing fast they are becoming more of a family affair rather than a big party.

I try not to make a big deal out of it but thanks to my amazing friends, they always have something planned out for me. This year on my birthday they gave me the MOST amazing surprise party ever (I was just really surprised - even though they made up a million lies just to prevent me from suspecting anything).

i don't care...i used to around my teens..not big parties just having friends over n stuff. but as i grew older it doesn't matter. plus i feel awfully depressed on that day for some weird weird reason.
i'd rather get my gifts on eid :D

Recognise the day but no celebration as such.
My family just takes a picture in the house all together, cuts some cake, and then 5 mins later we are sitting back on the couch. i like hanging out with ppl on birthdays but when im alone i get depressed.
