Do This Both For Community And Police Personnel

A letter from one Samreen Tariq has appeared about the lack of public transport for female going to works, colleges or homes. She says whatever little space in ladies compartments of buses, mini buses is available shameless gents occupy. This is a great problem in Karachi. The fault more lies on the society itself rather than the authorities. The gents sitting on ladies seat feel no shame that the ladies standing on the bus stops waiting to enter the bus or mini bus are daughters, sisters or wives of others similarly we have and that these ladies also have to reach home. Sindh Ombudsman as far as I remember a few years back directed for provding separate portions for ladies which impression definitely included that this portion will be used by ladies only. But later no one seriously saw implementation of it. Last year the Sindh Transport Minister one day passing through the road stopped a mini bus and fined the driver and conductor for accommodating gents in ladies compartment. It was a good step but for usual cheap popularity as a year has passed perhaps he did not see any other mini bus in the same condition. Since these Ministers and other authorities do not travel in mini buses hence through their tinted glasses air conditioned vehicles hence such things do not pass through their eyes. Sindh Ombudsman few years back advised making separate compartments for ladies and the concerned Minister by fining such a violator driver/conductor made it as un-written rule or precedent. I wonder if our Police in the interest of the community and in the larger interest of the Police Force would start from now onward stopping any mini bus or bus carrying gents in ladies compartment, pulling all gents out and “unofficially” fining them at the spot Rs. 50/- or Rs. 100/- each. This would not only just in a week completely finish this madness rather it will also increase “police collective welfare fund”. Tehn even if a conductor asked people to sit without fare no gent will sit in ladies compartment. Such type of self financed funds or welfare schemes from my heart I can say I and educated citizens would appreciate the Police doing it. Sometime to eradicate a big evil if a small wrong is to be done I think it is much batter.
