Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

I agree with you. And I am not saying it becuase Pakistan is out now. I was thinking about it before as well. These things can happen in ODI's and I think it's not fair that one or two bad days disqualify you from the World Cup. For example, let's say that Australia had NZ and BD in its group and it loses to NZ and BD (like they have lost before). It would eliminate them from the competiton as well, which to me is not a fair format. There should be more matches in the preliminary round and then sudden-death should begin. If the current format was in use in 1992 world cup, Pakistan would also have been eliminated in the first round.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

soccer wc is also same format
but what i feel is each team should play eachother for atleast 2 times at league stage, even minnows (india & Pak :) ) get chance to play against strong teams (Ireland & BD:) ) for their practice

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

Why do we have to play warm up games, they should be included as regular games. this would offset any chance of pointless upsets

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

The World Cup format is perfect. Nothing wrong with it. If teams are not willing to bring their best on to the field, they do not deserve to advance to the next round. Lets face it. Even if we were to advance to the Super 8, we would have been one of the first teams to exit either way.

Also, good teams should find a way to spank away the minnows, as Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka have shown us. Pakistan, on the other hand, performed poorly on two consecutive game so I don't see how today's loss can be labelled something as a surprise and a tukka. A tukka is when Australia lost to Bangladesh in 2005.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

I think the minnows should have a separate group for themselves.
They should play between themselves and whoever comes tops should be handed the "Minnow World Cup" and sent home.

Yeh minnows ne naak mein dam karke rakha hooa hai

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

yeah pakistan and india will reach final of that cup:)

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

No its a simple format for everyone to understand.

If you are good you will win. If you are bad you will lose. What is so complicated?

To be declared a good team, you must be able to win crucial games (which are ALL the games in the World Cup). This is not just any tournament, but the ultimate prize.

There is no such thing as an off day in the World Cup.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

for pakistan it wasnt one upset, they played bad cricket from the starting day of the tournament....

i thought they cud not come up with a performance worse than what we saw against the windies, but our boys did not let us down....

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

This is the best format for the World Cup by far. Remeber it contains teams both from members and associate. You have only one member in the group and have to play 3 games. If you loose two games in a ro w, you don't deserve to be in Super 8, instead you belong to your own hole. Keep playing and win on the dusty pitches.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

so you are suggesting we should make WC knockout

I know Pakistan is out because we played bad, but I am just saying that there should be more games in the first round rather than in super 8.

It should be like a pyramid, the higher up you go less matches you play and each match means more. In the current format this pyramid starts from super 8s, but it should start from the 1st round.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

Many of us have a life to live too. You can't be playing cricket forever.

Ideally the perfect World Cup would be one where a home game and away game is played, but that is not possible.

Every match is important. If you are looking for some practice matches to get you going, your in the wrong place, as every team had 4 years to practice. Welcome to the World Cup.. now its time for you to perform or go home.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

The format is correct.

A World Cup is about pressure and consistency. Pakistan and India could not handle the pressure and are out. No need to blame the system. Good for these "minnows" for upsetting the big guns.

The present format makes it possible for the "minnows" close to test status to participate on equal footing with the "test" nations. It can only grow the game. Ireland's government gave 1 000 000 pound for development of the game after Ireland started to improve lately. I am sure the government will now give even more due to the return they got.

There was a time when Sri Lanka was a "minnow" and people questioned why they were allowed to join the World Cup. Participation helped them to what they are today. Same happened with Bangladesh. Hopefully Ireland and Kenia can also respond.

Maybe cricket should have 3 competitions:

  1. Test playing nations with some "minnows" that may play tests against big sides at home and away against each other.

  2. ODI WC where all the test teams participate and the best "minnows" make up the total to 16 (as present).

  3. 20/20 WC where all (maximum of 32) participate as the playing field is much more equal.

B class or "minnow" test teams (e.g. Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Kenia, etc.) should be allowed to play tests against A class (stronger) teams only at home and may tour against each other. This will help them in not being thrashed too badly when away and still give them opportunity to tour against more equal strength.

Teams can move into a bigger league as they improve their strength.

Re: Do think this format of WC schedule is right??

Lets see if Boyz can keep it up and loose to Zimbabwe too.
