Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high schools?

Maybe at a smaller scale, since there are fewer students compared to a public high school. Do problems like violence, drugs, theft, gangs exist in them also? I am assuming they have seperate sections for guys and girls, so are these issues with chup chup kay dating?

I can already take a guess that the biggest issue in the girls side of an Islamic high school must be arranged marriages and girls depressed due to that.

I dont get the whole segregation of sexes. How else are they going to meet from their own communities if they are never allowed to see each others. that is why our kids start dating goray/kalay/hispanics etc.

and no, i haven't seen any problems. I have seen and observed schools in nyc and chicago area.

I would love to see responses on this, both positive and negative.

There’s a few Islamic schools in the area and I’ve never heard of any problems regarding drugs/gangs or anything of that nature, however I did hear that there were several instances where girls would leave the school (it’s a boarding school) at night and so the administration eventually had to seal the windows closed hahaahahhaha. :omg: true story kasme! =D

Re: Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high scho

i know 2 islamic schools in Cali and i have never heard of any problems. the one i went to was alright, there was just this one kid who was really battameez and was kicked out, but that was it. oh and the school's janitor had been to jail for abusing his wife and daughter...
my lil bro goes to a different one tho cuz it has better standards than the one i had gone to. his school is very good and has a good reputation too.
and both of these schools were co-ed..no segregation. some girls had a few crushes..but the guys weren't interested :D lol

Do they teach evolution in Islamic high school? Who makes the curriculum? Where do the Islamic books come from? I am assuming it is just a regular school with an Islamic studies class (like in Pakistan).

Re: Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high scho

I had family who enrolled their little children in an Islamic private school, and it was a nightmare. Teachers were not very knowledgeable or credible. These schools have major problems finding good teachers, which is more of a fault of the community than anything else. They charged the family lots of money, and basically would ask for more money for classroom activities (it happens in many public American schools too, but you'd expect better from an Islamic school). The teacher would take money, and then spend a litle of it on the kids, and then pocketed the rest, according to volunteers who worked at the school. When the children were found to have poor English, I persuaded the parents to pull them out and put them in regular public schools.

I don't know what its like for older kids though.

Teeny, i think you have the wrong notion of islamic schools or maybe i misunderstood you. My apologies if i did.

Islamic schools are not a regular school with an islamic studies class. The ones that i knwo of in Chicago and where i currently live, they have quran classes wehre they teach you how to read quran with tajweed, teach you various duas and surahs, ahaadith etc along with your other classes. So its a lot of islamic education as compared to a 45 minute class period back home with just the islamic history and a surah here or there.

My cousins go to an islamic school in Chicago and the space is just really really crammed. I dont know much about their standards but i was very surprised once when i heard the cousins say how the teacher told them that dogs are bad and dirty etc. I realise how htey are "bad" but it just came as a surprise that a 5 year old would look at a dog as dirty instead of a regular animal.

Re: Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high scho

@ teeny.. :hehe:
Once, I think one of my cousins had drawn a picture and teacher ripped it up and threw it away… saying drawing was haram. Err…i wudnt xpect that from a teacher who actually knwos what she’s doing

TDW - In Australia - the books are imported from the UK, Saudi Arabia, India and pakistan. They are screened for having no hate material in them.

At work a Shia Arab girl from one of these Islamic school joined us.
She was friendly and a very good worker. But, she did believe that the Shias were the tolerant muslims, whereas the Sunnis were the funatics causing worldwide problems.

I would rather we put our children in a public school - where the kids will grow up with all sorts of children and accept the small differences we have (in religion, language, culture, skin colour etc).

Re: Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high scho

Isn't that the universal Muslim attitude towards dogs?

Re: Do the Islamic high schools in the US have the same problems as regular high scho

Doesn't mean she learned that in school. Plenty of public educated students wouldn't know if India and Iran are not the same countries, and probably think Sikh and Arabs are the same turban wearing people.
