Do the avid Urdu literature readers in Pakistan attempt to learn Hindi?

And do the avid Hindi literature readers in India attempt to learn Urdu? If not, don’t you think they are missing out on a whole bunch of good literature which may be very similar to what they are interested in?

In the US, the really really nerdy people learn Japanese, so that they can understand Japanese cartoons and comics. So that got me thinking about this.

hindi isnot common in pakistan so i dont think urdu lit readers attempt to learn in hindi. urdu is very common in india so possibilities are that yes hindi lit readers do make an attempt to learn urdu (even if its writing/reading urdu but in hindi like we write roman urdu)

plus most of the bollywood songs are/were written in pure urdu rather than in hindi (by lyricist who were hindus)

Wouldn't it make sense that our nerdy reading types (in Pakistan) be all over Hindi, trying to learn it? They don't even have to make a significant effort, just learn to read the writing, and everything else will fall into place.

Re: Do the avid Urdu literature readers in Pakistan attempt to learn Hindi?

Many of the famous publications of India used to (I dont know if they still do) come out in both Urdu and Hindi. Two names that come to mind are

Shama (a film/showbiz) magazine
Sareeta (A kahwateen digest/reader digest kind of magazine, same size too)

Both of the above publications were my mom's favorite and although Shama was available in Pakistan too, Sareeta was only available in India and somehow every 3-4 months, my dad would arrange through his contacts to get hold of latest copies for mom.
