Are you married to someone who is politically active or has very strong opinions?
Does it cause issues between people?

Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
I am very open minded about stuff and all for LGBT marriages. Hubby agrees too that people should be allowed to do what makes them happy. However, he said if our kids were gay, he would not approve. It made me very angry!
It is not a bigg issue though right now. Its about picking my battles and at this point we don't have kids so I am not too worried.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Reha..i know someone whose husband is in side of PMLN whereas wife and kids are supporting PTI. And as far as i know..it hasn't caused any rift. People should have their own political opinion if they want.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
As long as you stay respectful to each other and understand that different people have different opinions on matters, and that it doesnt mean that somebody is wrong if he doesnt share your point of view, then all should be fine.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Reha, if I was married without children, and wife voted for any one but PTI, I would divorce.
I have told my family who ever don't vote of PTI, is not related to me.
Thing is, its not politics, its saving country, not even country but more important thing people.
Politics would 20 year from now, when there is PTI, and new party who is just equally honest and equally non-thief party, then it will be politics. Right now its not.

Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Yes it does matter in my relationship because I have strong political views and don't mind expressing them. For me, political views and interest in history and the current affairs is a biggest turn on. I don't mind difference of views as long as they are backed, but plain ignorance and bigoted opinions disgust me.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Bizarre! Just because your wife is not supporting PTI you will split-up. Though I am supporting PTI too. But I think people are expecting way too much from Imran Khan. Let his governance come and see. Politics should be kept far away from any relation.
Do politics play a role in relationships?
My mom and dad got opposite politically views and they have been happily married for 32 years
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Monk I hope you're joking. You think PTI will be Pakistan's saviour? No doubt it is the best option for these elections but thinking it is more than just politics is a bit too dramatic?
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Well I wouldn't want him to affiliate with a party or a group that's led by jaanwars like Zardari. That's like supporting Hitler, sorry. Actually, I'm not even sorry to say that... khoon chus liya hai ghareeb logon ka in jaise logon ne.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
It depends on the kind of views they hold. Their politics might differ, but the views that would cause serious differences would be based on values that I don't agree with, and the different values are what would cause issues. Then again, there are certain politicians and parties that are just scumbags, and people often support them out of ignorance and familiarity, and whenever I've met someone with different views, we've been able to reach a mutual understanding. Then again, I'm pretty passionate about politics and current affairs so it's unusual to meet people who actually have valid, logical reasons for their positions, and it's not hard to argue my case. It's sad but much of politics is just about perception.
Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
Don't know much about South Assian politics. Know most Pak political parties just by coming across said names here.
Being a supporter of the extreme Right would be a show stopper. Anyone who supports the views of Glen Beck Limbaugh OReilly Hannity Bachman Cheney Fox News would be strictly off limits.
The Center is less ignorant but not good enough. That is where the Democratic parties reside. Then there is 10% of the country. That is against unnecessary wars ( most wars are), for equal rights, separation of church and state, for Medicaid, for Universal healthcare.
Non negotiable.

Living in pakistan and calling PTI just a political party would be more like if Drew Barrymore wanted to date me I told my friend she is just a girl.
AS in, I should see my self fist in the mirror then appreciate what is being given to me, rather then start acting "oh that happens to me all the time"
NO I DOESN'T!!

Re: Do politics play a role in relationships?
I like many people on here have a very strong political views and as far as the school of economic thought I follow. Politics, History, International relations and many other academic subjects I follow closely However, I do respect other peoples opinions and beliefs as long as they're not extreme (like the Pakistani Nazi followers I have across). If you're asking if I could marry someone with differing opinions, the answer is yes. Lol
