Off course one cannot hate the diseased person but can dislike the disease itself. 
The article, like I mentioned had nothing religious about it.
While Exodus closed down its closure was criticized by others stating they had not done the job as it was supposed to be, whatever it was.
The article clearly showed however, significant numbers of homosexuals do suffer from many illnesses and live lives abnormally.
Forget about religiously oriented organizations for a minute, other associations like NARTH is secular.
Few facts also remain:
1- APA was bullied, harrassed and intimidated.
2- Its members who were themselves homosexuals helped homosexual activitists to gain access in to APA conference/meeting and threatened to brweak down the booth related to homosexuals.
3- No single scientific evidence was cited when APA wrote its decision to remove homosexuality from list of diseases (1973). Mere ‘philosophical’ arguments.

4- One cannot believe the decision was made on voting by APA members and NOT by scientific or carefully performed studies as evidence one way or other!
5- Heterosexuality inclined Psychiatrists and those who were engaged in therapy were not given fair chance of voting since homosexual activists secretly paid for the mailing of ballots after getting hold of APA member addresses.
6- There is a controversy in different sources how many actually thought homosexuality was not a disease. (I have to find this information but read a while ago)
7- NARTH gives list of those psychiatrists who have good credentials and yet denied membership to APA.
8- Militant homosexuals have even beaten those therapists or researchers who tried therapy on willing homosexuals.
9- Essentially, some of those psychiatrists who openly consider homosexuality as a disorder are not allowed to be members of APA.
10- APA is an organization of several thousand members. The decision still was not unanimous.
11- Yet, APA has used its influence or urged on world associations to adapt its position which is not based on science at all.
12- The autonomy of individual and freedom of those homosexuals who want to change is blocked in the name of ‘do not harm’ and yet, it is shown even before thrapy homosexuals may be suffering from various psychological dilemmas and conflicts. Why so rigid on even trying. Why have so strong position to block any effort?
13- Robert Spitzer in 2003 changed his position and found about 66% people were happily changed to heterosexuality, but later in 2012 after being criticized by homosexuals changed his position again. He tried to contact the journal to remove his study but it was not removed. He requested his study not be quoted however.
14- If scientists are not allowed to try therapy or find better ways to help those who want to be helped then why criticize others not having ‘medical’ background?
15- being genetic or originating from the womb of mother, certain brain parts contributing to it etc) means nothing at all. It does not prove homosexual behavior is normal. All it may mean the disease has some genetic link. Which by the way is not proven. identical twins have been shown to have different orientations.

**Biggest evidence for homosexuality being wrong and not accepted by majority world, is no parent in sane mind even secretively wishes his/or her child be gay. And that is NOT homophobia. (Heterosexuality is not a factor here to consider as counter argument) .
