however I do not think parading a horse and beating yerself up with chains or cutting open your and your kid's scalps is warranted in religion.

The question btw was not directed towards shias but to everyone.

my question has been answered, it was a simple question and needed a simple answer, which I was able to reach.

Other people can continue the discussion, justifications, reaosns if they so choose. My query has been answered and I am done :)

..which is why you'll find that they're described as cultural expression of religious sentiment. and it is not prescribed.. i'd even say permitted.. either to do so, unless you find its a natural expression of grief.
