Pakistan: From the graveyard | The Economist

“I AM not sure if Pakistan was created in the name of religion, but it is surely being destroyed in the name of religion.” So wrote a distraught former army officer on December 16th, as a terrorist attack, awful even by Pakistan’s grim standards, unfolded in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the north-west of the country, not far from the border with Afghanistan. Seven members of the Pakistani Taliban, speaking with the local Pushtu accent and dressed in the uniforms of the local paramilitary force, came from a graveyard and over the wall of a large, army-run school. They then moved through it, murdering children and teachers with guns and grenades. Three or four attackers are said to have blown themselves up.
At the latest count 141 victims have died, 132 of them children. Survivors told stories of children shot as they tried to duck behind desks and chairs. Some were reportedly killed after gunmen interrupted a first-aid training session in the school hall; others fell in the playground. Eyewitnesses spoke of children lined up and killed. So many injured arrived at the local hospital that it ran out of blood.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

You do not need secular laws or religious laws debate for it.

As in present state, none of blasphemy law, hudood ordinence, are leading to killing of innocents.

I repeat: These Laws are not to be blamed for killing of innocents. it is the lawlessness which is to be blamed.

Regarding unregistered/illegal madarsas or self proclaimed moulvis, you rightly pointed out are problems but they have nothing to do with what Islamic laws say. It is the inept Govt. which which is to be blamed for.

Hence: Changing Govt. to completely secular and eliminating those laws will not solve the issue. it is the proper implementation of laws in general which is needed.

No sir.

There are many version of laws at the same time operative in Pakistan. *A very confused state of affair. * Majority of laws are borrowed from British laws. Same is the case in India. IPC and PPC are both very much borrowed from British laws.

ADDED: How many threads are opened in condemning police not to catch mobile snatchers etc.?

The problem general public faces are being placed in back burner and threads after threads/editirials/blogs are opened on Talibans/terrorism, Political tussle between IK and Govt. etc. as if these are the major problems public are facing on daily basis in Pakistan.

Please name any law which brought death and destruction like we saw in Peshawar, Sawat etc. Even by causing confusion.

That is where the problem lies.

There is no Islam which Taliban are trying to promote. Their 'religion' is to cause death and destruction. Nothing less, nothing more.

They have nothing to do with Islam whatsoever. One can easily see the 'letter' written by someone as Taliban spokesperson rubbish and completely un-islamic. Someone who is making gullible people to believe they are 'Muslims".

Again, this means there is no need to blame islamic laws and there is no need to bring a political debate of secular versus religious Pakistan in the wake of what criminals are doing.

**
No need to do politics on dead people. That is what I said to Ali.**

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

So if they are irrelevant then why make such a fuss and open a thread on it?

Let them be irrelevant. Why do people have to worry about what they say and actually promote them?

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Because they go around killing innocent people in the name of Islam. So many innocent children killed and you call these pigs irrelevant. Yes they are pigs to me regardless of what you think of them. Coward to the core these animals are, an example of them is the burqa mullah who put the lives of so many people under him in jeopardy and himself ran away wearing a burqa. That is just about the standard of these animals.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Pigs should be only killed if we stand fearless

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

So whatever Musharraf did in Lal Masjid was absolutely correct

Only if the burka molvi was also bombed that day

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

I said their "condemnation" or "lack of" is irrelevant.

If they are doing something it is irrelevant what excuse they are using. They are the scum of earth.

Why believe them to begin with what they say or not?

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

WHY is this burqa wearing fag still breathing is the question. Whats worst is he is preaching in Islamabad everyday.

Till we figure out how to eliminate these mullahs and figure out a way so these fags dont procreate any more illiterate morons - then our society is doomed. These bastar*ds have created the cesspool in which terrorists are breeding. Time to slit all of these fags to pieces. NO more respect for a bastar*d with a beard preaching terror in name of islam. If police/army cant take care of it. Middle class should take matters into their own hands and kill'em all - let god sort them out.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Point in case.

Useless rant. Disgusting.

TLK thread was about this maniac behavior.

Only way is to be civil. Not be like other animals.

Arrest the guy. Charge him for promoting crime. Punish him using the law.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

No way , Find them , identify , arrest , prosecute and hang

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

it si a shame that the burqa maluvi escaped.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Musharraf wanted to finish everyone

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

The traitor Mush is also responsible of this all equally

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

WHAT LAW?????? Do you know the state of affairs in Pakistan????

THese bastar*ds have broken jails. They have murdered lawyers, politicians, judges to the point where people are scared to testify. For gods sake they murdered Minister for speaking against blasphemy law. They have attacked airports, GHQ - you think this can be handled business as usual?? You need to examine your head sir.

The nation is being choked from the neck. Wake up.

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Uncle don't start playing politics now pleae

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

This is not politics , reasons of this bloodshed

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

Reason of this bloodshed is TTP

Re: Do not fall for their crocodile tears. No one should be spared

We need to provide extra security to HC and SC judges esp. those dealing with blasphemy and terrorism-related cases and expedite the judicial process so that once convicted, criminals are sent to the gallows within a week (maximum).

Apparently 8256 convicted terrorists are languishing in 88 jails across the country!

Interior Ministry on Wednesday compiled list of terrorists who had been issued death sentences.
Interior Ministry had asked all the provincial governments to provide lists of people convicted for terrorism. According to the list, at least 8256 prisoners sentenced to death are detained in 88 jails across country.
