Do-it-urself Decorations

Hey All,
I wanted to know if anyone has made mehndi stages or decorated a hall on their own without help from a “professional…” What I really want to do is put net material on the ceiling of the hall with twinkle lights inside the net to give the hall a fairy tale look..the thing is Im not sure how to do it…we’re even making the mendi backdrop and nikkah backdrop on our own (we live in non desi montreal!) ANy ideas how to accomplish these tasks without looking paindoo :stuck_out_tongue: ?? :halo:

Re: Do-it-urself Decorations

I would also like to ask if anyone knows the best way to make a rose haar :stuck_out_tongue: ?? How to avoid wilting? What kind of string is best? Does the string go through the rose hip horizontally or is it better to sow right through the flower (from the rose hip through the yellow center)…so many questions so little time…

You can get fishing and die it in any color you want. Covering the entire hall might be difficult if the hall is really big (but it is doable and you can get fishing net in all different sizes). Other option could be having a center area and cover the roof of that center area with the net (instead of the entire hall) and you can hang twinkles like mobiles on the net or throw them inside the net. Just use push pins to pin the net with the ceiling. I would also suggest that keep the net loose, so it kinds of give that fairy affect. Also make the sides of the net with some wide ribbon or that other stuff (gosh I can’t think what it is called)…

Re: Do-it-urself Decorations

My mom made the haar for my bil and his mom. She made them by stitching the flowers side way. What I remember is that you don’t stitch the flowers in one direction but opposite to each other. You pass the needle horizontally through the flowers instead of passing it vertically.

Wowww--thanks for the feedback Lusi!

If anyone has close up pics of rose hars I would love to see them!

Its just that we tried it once for my cousin but the petals kept falling and it didnt sit right.. i guess its because we didnt sow them in an alternating fashion!:p
