Do dreams mean anything?

Can/should the dreams be interpreted? Do they really have hidden meanings or are they just products of our sub-conscious? I’ll appreciate if along with the personal views someone can provide the islamic ruling on that.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Dreams are a reality of life and if not considered somehow as part of our means to develop ourselves or help make choices then we will be ignoring a huge aspect of spiritual condition. If we think of the substance of a dream to that of a memory they feel the same. It is true that interpretation is not always possible and most dreams are not prophetic, but some contain elements of truth and I am witness to that fact.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Sometimes. Depends even on the season in one of my Islamic Dream Interpretation books. But don't let just dreams lead your life too much. When a dream has a meaning, you often feel it after waking up. After a while when the event happens you had dreamed about, you realise that's what it was. That's all to it. Mostly, it's only your brains digesting your daily input.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

My mum is always having dreams that in some form or another come true. Both me and my sister have had dreams with prophets in them. Hers had prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in it and mine had prophet Yusuf (pbuh) in it, i cant help but think they meant something.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

I've heard from scholars that 1/40th of prophethood has been spread amongst the last ummah, ( the Ummah of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasalam) - that does not mean that there can be another prophet but people from this ummah can see true dreams. Having said that not all dreams are true, some are just nafsi dreams. With interpreting dreams: not many people can interpret them, and what we felt was a bad dream could actually have a good meaning. Hope that helps =)

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Hmm interesting. How can we interpret them then? I had a dream some years ago, with some strong Quranic elements. It left me baffled. I couldn't make out it's meaning and it keeps lingering in my thoughts.

Peace Sister Masi Museebtay (LOL funny name)

I had a dream some years back and I saw a page of the Qur'an and in it I was repeating a single verse over and over again. Then the image disappeared and the sound of the verse kept repeating itself to me. I believe it to have been sent to me as shif'a, because at the time I had some emotional/psychological issues. Hopefully my dream will be very similar to your own. Can you perhaps tell us which verses in it you remember the most?

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

It's a character of a puppet show : )

Yes mine is somewhat similar, I'll pm you, not very comfortable with sharing it here.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Fine inshaAllah ... I would prefer that too.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

I once had a dream which i dont mind sharing here, its starts off not very nice but gets better and i believe it did have a meaning.

It appened 8 years ago at the age of 16. I was questioning my religion, it wasnt that i was smoking, drinking etc it was a does god really exist kind of phase but quite strong feeling where i felt God doesnt exist and I was going far far away from religion in my heart and head.

One night I had a dream where I was being crushed in my grave and my skin was burning so much I could feel pain in my sleep and I just wanted to scream, I saw my parents and they were unhappy and then at the corner of the grave there was a small sparkling thing and i tried to reach it, and when i did, an image of a sura appeared

I woke up and I was sweating and shaking and it was fajr time. I went to quran in my room and opened it randomly and it opened on the sura which said something about disbelievers eventually becoming blind to faith and their hearts become like stone and they will never come back. I wish i remebered which surah this was! :(

But that scared me so so much that I prayed my fajar prayers and honestly my life has been so much better ever since and i have never forgotten that day and will never forget Allah again.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Best thing to do is contact an ulema - maybe your local Mufti or Imaam of the masjid. Mufti's usually can tell you about a dream if they have studied dreams etc.
They can tell you so much about your dream and what it means, I highly recommend it

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

inspiron, that was intense!

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

I had a dream too in 2003, I was in my twenties and the Ahmadie/Mirzai movement discussed here was beginning to create doubts in me, I was just discovering true interpretation of Islam and becoming more religious. My mind was quite vulnerable and I was afraid that I might have the wrong interpretation, those discussions here raised more doubts and questions than they gave me answers in the beginning. One of the most bothersome to me was, what if I really am wrong and what if there really is supposed to have come another prophet after Mohammed (saww)?

With these doubts in mind, I had a powerful dream which I'll never forget. I kept hearing this voice reciting darood sharief and when I woke up, for me that was a sign that I am following the right prophet and Mohammed (saww) really is the last prophet and I shouldn't believe other interpretations. I know people will laugh at me, but I'm used to that. :)

Months after that dream, I read more about that topic and all that information confirmed for me that
I was following the proper interpretation insha Allah. I still read about different interpretations of Islam and other religions, but they don't confuse me anymore nor do they cast doubt on my faith. Instead, when I compare their logics and arguments with the Islamic interpretation I follow, I only feel more strengthened.

I guess we all go through these fases in life.

(just a side note: we all have different interpretations of Islam, we should all be allowed to follow the interpretation which seems the most truthful and logical to us, it should be our own choice and we should all respect each others various interpretations, even if we don't agree, same goes for non-Islamic religions)

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

Yes. Dreams mean things.

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

In the name of ALLAH, The Most Merciful, The Most Beneficent

Dreams are a very important part of any religion, but there are some very important parts to be considered in dreams that most people are unaware of. This article covers them:

Re: Do dreams mean anything?

I have dreams all the time, and am a firm believer that there is a message, and have more or less always been proven correct, although i have a book which interprets dreams, it really should be discussed with those who have the right knowledge to interpret correctly.
