Re: do anti-depressants work??
Yes, they can help. But you should talk to a professional first, be it a psychologist (one that doesn't prescribe) or a psychiatrist (one that does). You would most likely need to get a blood test done before starting any medication and see your Primary Care Physician first.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
Go see your doctor and ask them to refer you to a counsellor first. It really helps to talk through your problems with someone impartial. Then if that doesn't work go back to your doctor and see what they say. No need to jump straight onto medication!
Re: do anti-depressants work??
You can't get them off the counter anyway. So best is to go talk to your doctor, who will recommend you to a psychologist, only HE/SHE knows what's best for you.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
get a full physical evaluation done as step 1 and go from there.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
yes, it does work. but comfort come with side effects too.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
Don't take medicines if it started recently as it could be temporary. Why not wait and see if it wears off naturally?
Re: do anti-depressants work??
See a doctor, get diagnosed and then talk to your doc about the right one for you.
They can work but not always and its easy to get addicted.
Please be careful with them.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
I have heard that anti-depressants can drive people to suicide. ![]()
Shouldn’t you be addressing the causes of your depression rather than trying to treat the symptoms ?
That would have more long-term benefit than some poisonous drugs.
And if you must look for treatment, look for natural remedies rather than conventional pharmaceutical drugs.
I don’t know what that would be, but you should research before taking regular drugs and good luck. ![]()

Re: do anti-depressants work??
Anti-depressants are a quick fix to a long term problem. You are the only person that knows what your trigger factors are. Manage thos triggers and you will be fine. I have been in the same situation and by facing your fears you will be much stronger.
Re: do anti-depressants work??
I have been through clinical depression, anti-depressants do not work - Period!!! There has been no long term independant research studies done to know the full (adverse) effects of these drugs. I know this may sound weird, but I realized I was purchasing all these pretty things to make myself happy and then decided to spend the same money on my health. I went an saw reputable Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbal Doctor, Therapeutic Massage therapist and began practicing yoga. Also, reading Salat and Holy Qur'an daily helped calm me. It is the hard way, uphill struggle but I assure you making a long term investment in yourself will be priceless!
Re: do anti-depressants work??
yeah, people who take them kill them selves.
so person no depression.
